Aga v Rayburn

Options
Am about to move house, to a remote part of cornwall (so no GAs), the houe has night storage heaters which I will remove and does require rewiring.
Because of that was going to put either an Aga or a Rayburn (or similar) in the kitchen to run the hot water and do most of the cooking on. does anyone have any experiences or advice to do with either as its a huge expense and I want to make sure that I get it right.
Preferablly solid fuel (as the house has two open fires) or kerosene oil but willing to take advice on different fuel supplies, cost efficiency fuel efficiency etc.

  • You will really struggle to run central heating on an AGA - Its a cooker nothing more - Just a very nice cooker, A Rayburn has two burners and the larger models have a good CH output. They are now (the current ones) Part L compliant too.

I loved the Rayburn we installed in the farmhouse that I used to live in

the warmth in the room it was in was wonderful, it ran our central heating beautifully, gave us tons of hot water & I used it for cooking from time to time. you have to be organised to have the stove at the right temperatures for what you want to cook, & I never quite got the hang of it, maybe because I was always aware that I had my 'back-up' electric cooker! (& having the use of 2 cookers at Xmas was just fantastic!!)

ours was solid-fuel, which was cost-efficient, but was also it's one downside ... apart from the work keeping it fuelled & cleaning it out, the dirt it produces in the form of ash & smoke deposits, & that fine black dust that gets everywhere, makes cleaning a nightmare (& clogs your Dyson filters prematurely)

anyway, I'd definitely have another Rayburn again if I ever live in a suitable place, but personally, as I'm dead lazy & hate dusting, I'd go for another fuelling method

oh, & it makes the BEST bread ever :)
