Police, car insurance -driving uninsured car on "driving cars not owned clause"
What might happen if I drive a car that is no longer insured by its owner, under my policy which includes the "can drive cars not owned" 3rd party cover clause ?
Anyone know what might happen in this situation.
Car is no longer insured by the owner.
I drive the car occasionally under my own insurance on the "can drive other cars not owned by you clause".
On TV we now constantly see Police stopping cars showing as uninsured & seizing them because they are not down as insured.
What will happen if I drive this car & Police stop me ?

The car needs to be insured independently of you. Then you can drive it 3rd party on your own Comp cover.....but as far as I know, it MUST be Comp cover.0

I am not the owner.
The owner no longer needs to drive the car, so has not renewed their insurance.
The car has current tax.0 -

the owner needs to have it insured, for you to be able to drive it on your insurance, if you are stopped by the police, and the owner has not got it insured, you will be done for driving without insurance.Take every day as it comes!!0 -
Insurered by someone other than you I think is the answer, otherwise what's to stop you insuring a fiesta then driving a porsche that your mate has bought for you, but holds in his name without insuranceI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Why don't you get out your policy and read the restrictions on driving other cars?
Or ring your insurance company.0 -

Why does the owner NEED a car they are no longer going to drive? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Because it's only 3rd party cover, so damage to porsche would not be covered. Whoever owns it stands to lose a lot of money.0 -

People keep saying this. Unless it says so on you policy documentation (and it never has on any of my policies) it is not a requirement.0 -

This is a good reliable old car, they will only get small amount if they sell, much less than it is worth to them as a spare car.0
