Wedding cake - HELP!

Just be careful if you are stacking cakes without using dowels. You might just get away with two tiers but you really need to keep the boards on the base as the icing on the lower tier can get marked if not0

Have just had a reply to my email re M&S wedding cakes:
When you order the cake through your local store we recommend that you
order the cake at least 21 working days before your wedding.
The cake will come with the three tiers on top of each other so you will
not need to assemble the cake yourself.
I'm going to pick up an order form the next time I'm in town. 21 working days sounds like a really long time. I do know that they are very strict on the date as a friend wanted her cake from there and was a day late in ordering it and they couldn't help. this was after she had been let down twice by other suppliers as well.Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

Went in to my local tescos this morning to have a look at their cakes. They have a large - £13.99 (fruit), a medium - £7.49 for sponge, they also do a fruit but can't remember the price, and a small - £5.99 (fruit). Bargain! Don't think they're as big as the M&S ones though. Ours is just for show really - I'm ordering an extra tier to serve as dessert with our sit down meal, so I think I'll get 3 fruit ones as I can sit them on top of each other. Going to take my tape measure with me next time to measure the size!Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

The Tesco ones aren't as big as the M&S ones which is why I'm going for them. I don't know how big the Asda ones are but they are a similar price.
I don't know if you can order the Tesco ones either. I have had a look at them and some of them looked a bit bashed around and they haven't always had all the sizes in.
Are they on the home delivery list? Tesco is the closest big supermarket to me but is the only one that says we are out of their home delivery areaOfficially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

I haven't seen them on the home delivery list. I don't mind them being a bit smaller, but the weddings on the small side anyway. Not sure if you can order them, no harm in asking customer services though.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

The pics and info on the tesco and asda cakes on the previous page were from internet shopping but it was a while ago that I copied it off. The pics are linked direct from their sites tho so I would assume they are still therepaddingtondoo wrote: »Have just had a reply to my email re M&S wedding cakes:

Sorry to doubt you but that sounds like absolute madness. Their own brochure says if you want to stack the cakes you need their pillars or dowels and transporting an already stacked cake would be near impossible! Did you ask them about a particular cake or just general?
