Electricity Final Account Statement

I changed electricity supplier from British Gas to SEEBOARD 11months ago. Today, I have received a final account statement from British Gas. Whilst checking the readings out with SEEBOARD, the representative told me that legally, I had as long to pay the bill as it had taken British Gas to send me the bill, i.e. 11 months before I have to pay it!
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Not sure about the legality, but as you owe the money why don`t you just pay it and get them off your back?
You decided, quite rightly,to leave B.G. so why prolong the agony, after all you have had their money for 11 months ;DDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
What they told you was complete rubbish.
Just be happy you have had an interest-free loan for 11 months and pay the bill.0 -
Yeah, I'm with Derrick and MMD on this one. Perhaps you could hang on to it until you get the red reminder if you like - but if you're paying the SEEBOARD account, it proves you don't dispute SEEBOARD's opening reading - and if that's the same as the British Gas closing reading - basically, I don't see how you can delay it.
I'm think that gas and leccy suppliers in the UK are still allowed to charge late payment fees to consumers. If you want to find out what these late payment fees actually are, your best bet is to phone up British Gas and ask them.0
