Anlaby, Hull - anybody know it?

Mornin'
I've been offered a house in the village of Anlaby, and was wondering whether anybody lives there or knows the area at all?
If so, what's the area like? I'm faced with the decision of a flat in Leeds, or this house in Anlaby. The house is closer to work so would be best, only £20pcm more however the area is completely unknown to me.
Many Thanks,

hi,
i used to live in anlaby, it is a nice place there is a major supermarket and also in the village its self other shops including butchers ,fruit&veg shops other small shops ,which area of anlaby have you been offered the house in and then i could give you the relevant information on that area .hope this helps.0 -
if you work in or near Hull then the flat in Leeds (depending on which side of Leeds) wouldn't be a good idea, I would have thought - daily journeys through traffic along the M62 from Leeds to Hull.
Aren't you going to have a look at them both before you decide?

Anlaby, Willerby, Kirkella, Westella (last 2 more expensive) all ok areas. Close to nice countryside, handy for motorway, and on edge of the city.0

I live in Leeds and work in York - you won't want to do the commute everyday. Also, my grandparents used to live in Anlaby when I was young (a good few years ago now) but it was a lovely village then.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

I have lived in the area all my life, and Anlaby is a nice village, far enough away from Hull, but close to the Motorway, and countryside. Good selection of shops, pubs, etc, much better than the commute from Leeds0

Anlaby's OK. And the metropolis of inner Hull is nearby
I presume this a rental?
Otherwise the only thing I would add is to check it's flood history.
Anlaby, Willerby and other areas in and around Hull suffered in last years floods.anger, denial, acceptance0 -
Anlaby is lovely - but the social life, shops, activities etc are much better in Leeds.
The M62 commute can be horrific. It's been closed again today for several hours including the rush hour(s), and I think that's about the third time in the last 6 months. A colleague of mine was stuck on it for 5 hours not too long ago, and she was only trying to get to work !.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

You haven't said where the job is but if Anlaby is closer and only £20pm a dearer, it would be the sensible option. Going into / coming out of the Hull area during peak times down the A63 can be a nightmare - I know lived there for 20 years. If there's a slight problem, the tailbacks can be nightmarish as another poster has said. Not worth trying to save £20 when compared to the extra time and petrol commuting from Leeds would add to your day - I did Hull - Leeds commute for over a year and it does get really frustrating never mind the carbon footprint you'll have.
Hull itself, has come on leaps and bounds over the past 20 years and is actually a pretty good place to live in - decent shops and good nights out. In 20 years I never felt unsafe living there and only once was I a "victim of crime" and that was when someone went down our road and broke into all the cars that weren't alarmed, other than that no problems at all.
Why not have a day out or two (find a B&B and go with a mate) and check out the area?0 -
Anlaby is a nice place to live generally, though it would help us advise you some more i you gave the first part of postcode and do as other posters mentioned check out the flooding. It may be adviseable to try and get an insurance quote for the property to see if that flags anything up for you.0
