Hi
Am unable to open any saved office documents on my laptop. I have been able to until the last day or so (well its a few days since I last opened a document and that opened fine and today cant open any). I bought a laptop - acer 7520 last month and it had a 60 trial of microsoft office on it as well as the full version of microsoft works (which does work fine and in whcih I can open the documents but its a long way round)
anyhow wondering if there is any way of managing to open them again? i can open office make a document, save it, close it, then cant open it again
the trial isnt over yet so surely cant be that (how would I upgrade though?)
i can open the files fine on another computer or in microsoft works on this computer, just not in office?
any help much appreciated!

What format are you saving them as?
Use Open Office and forget about MS Office0 -
I have saved them as office documents, have opened the program, done the document and saved it but not paid attention to what format they were saved as
what happens to the documents I already have saved as office documents? do i just open them in works, and is there an option to save them as office documents or will works documents open in office for people I send documents too?
thanksWeight Loss - 102lb0 -
If you were using MS Word then I would expect them by default to be saved as .doc
Works saves as another extension which cannot readily be opened by MS Word.
Works will not necessarily open .doc extensions.
Have a look at the documents you saved and see what the extension is/are.
There used to be a Word viewer - not sure if that is still on the go.
Lots of info about this on the net - google is your friend here.0 -
what do you mean by 'can't open it again'.
does it give an error?
does nothing happen?
does Word open but the document doesn't show?
How are you trying to open it? double clicking the file or going into word and going to 'open'.
if you're double clicking the file and nothing is happening i've a feeling i know what it could be.
If it is doing this then read on;
when it doesn't open, right click the task bar at the bottom of the screen, click 'task manager', go to processes and end the winword process. then try opening the document again,0 -
Sounds like you had a trial of Office 2007 and have been saving them in Office 2007 format.0

they were actually all from office 2007 off another computer.
the trial hasnt finished yet?
would it make a difference if the version of office on the other computer that all the files were originally done in wasnt a 'verified' copy?Weight Loss - 102lb0 -

when I try to open the documents I double click but nothing happens, well if its an excel document it opens up excel but doesnt open up a spreadsheet its just blank and it stays blank all the time then eventually goes to not responding and I have to end itWeight Loss - 102lb0 -
Have you tried the Word 2003 viewer to read your documents?
Download using the link and then try opening the documents with that.
If it works then your trial version of Word has finished and you will not be able to use it unless you buy the licence for the full version.
If it does work then copy and paste your documents in Notepad or in Works and then go for Open Office or similar.
