I'll call the mortgage co tomorrow, only thing that puts me off is that the account will then be classed as in arrears and will still eventually have to be paid off. But having said that in the short term it will help if they agree to reduce payments.
I've never heard of water rates being eligible for reduced payments? Who would be best to approach for advice on that one?
Thanks again..0 -
Soon not to be browned off,(definitely)
Have you checked out the utilities board regarding your elec' and gas bill.
There is a calculator ro see if you'd be better off, most offer dual fuel where you would be better off.
I am with scottish power in a 3 floor home(5people) electricity only and we pay £21 pw max. I am on economy7 and i have heating on constantly through the night which keeps home warm throughout the day.
Do you pay by DD as savings paying this way too.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
Check the terms of your mobile insurance, some mobile insurance will pay for the cost of breaking your contract early.
Definately check the house and contents insurance. Look at Quidco, many house insurance policies will give cashback and there's some great deals out there. If you are in a flat do you actually need buildings insurance? Isn't that covered by the freeholder?0 -
Hi Brownedoff,
P.S I don't know your illnesses but based on the fact you have applied for DLA twice before you must feel you do meet the criteria, perhaps apply again and seek advice when filling out the new claim form, it may be an uphill struggle but explaining to someone else about the restrictions your illness brings on seems the best way to fill out the form.
Good Luck.
I agree with Allen....my Dad had a mssive 8 hour heart operation (there was a huge rip in his aorta - very sudden how ill he got) and we were told to 'expect the worst'. He clearly came out a changed man and before all this happened he has a crumbling spine and arthritis in his neck so really DLA was the only option for him....it took him 3 appeals to get it (much to my fury)
If you think you are entitled then you fight for what is yours..personally I think they do it just to see who lasts the pace. My poor Dad was exhausted mentally by it but I persusaded him to go to appeal one more time and thankfully it was the one that made the difference.
And I know your daughter is self sufficient...I didn't mean anything by it, I just wanted to make sure you were all getting what you deserved!!
Good luck
p.s - I also think phoning the mortgage company is a good idea...so you are in arrears for a while? big deal...half the country is at the mo and if it helps just now...plenty time to get back on track with them

I do pay my gas and elec by DD but I’ve just done a check online and it appears scottish power can reduce my payments to £75 a month! That’ll be a big help

I’m also on economy 7 in a 3 bed place. So it looks like I’ve been paying over the odds.
I’ve checked contents insurance online, phoned a couple of companies too, but definitely can’t get anything cheaper just yet. They mostly say they want to see a year claim free before they will consider taking me on.
Buildings is covered by the freeholder but then passed on to the lease-holder, it’s in the lease that we pay towards the premium. They have me over a barrel on that one, and to make matters worse there’s a £500 excess on the policy! Don’t get me into a discussion on Management Companies or I’ll be here all day lol..
I have scoliosis combined with slipping 3 discs a few years back and arthritis in the base of my spine. I had an op 4 years ago but sadly it didn’t work. There is talk of further surgery, but it’s a big step to take and the outcome can’t be guaranteed. So a lot to think about..
Does anyone know if there is a time limit that has to elapse before I can apply for DLA again?
You’re all being a great help, must admit I’m in a better frame of mind than I was yesterday
Off to phone the mortgage co now.. wish me luck

Hi Brownedoff, I am glad to see you have been able to make a few savings, every thing is worth a shot.
As for your DLA, there is no time limit for applying again, you can even make a new claim if one is going to appeal.
Get an advisor to help you, they know how to word things for you.
Good luck0 -
Dump the dishwasher, it seems to have been a liability to you anyway having been the cause of an insurance claim. Plus they are very wastefull of water and electric and plus I don't think anyone could really say they are essential, especially when the belt is being tightened.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
You have had a lot of good advice already and i hope you are finding some savings somewhere. i dont know if its of any help, but when i had my 1st child i was living with my mother and was supporting my child on my own. I was working full time and contributed £150 a month to my mother, this stayed the same once i had the baby, but i also paid for my share of phone bill and never expectd my mother include anything for the baby in her weekly shop etc. My mother never said that me having a baby increased her expenses. I went back to work part time when my baby was 3 months old and paid a childminder. i left home when my son was 6 months old and quickly realised i was getting a bargain at my mums!
I currently have DLA due to spinal problems. I managed to be accepted on my first application. I would say send in another application and remember to fill it in as you were experiencing your worst day. If you see a Chirpractor or Physio etc them to write a little bit about how your ailments have affected you and enclose it with the application. Good luck.0
