I guess it's worth a try checking her insurance policy but, like you, I think it's the traveller's responsibility to be in possession of the correct travel documents.

But, if this passport was posted back by the UKPA on the 11th March - where is it?
It's over 2 weeks, does it really take that long for delivery by a courier?

I guess it's too late to do anything now to find the passport in time for travel, but I hope the OP lets us know if it turns up.

Making any travel arrangements before receiving a new passport is always at your own risk.

Your insurance company will unfortunately not pay out.

Your only option would have been to go in person to a passport office yesterday and get a passport that way.

I agree. Travel insurance won't pay out as it is the traveller's responsibility to ensure all correct travelling requirmenets are met.

I agree about it being the traveller's responsibility (aside from the fact that the passport may be 'lost in transit'). The OP hasn't stated when the phonecall was made but tbh, if I was waiting for a passport I would have made enquiries in plenty time for other urgent arrangements to have been made if necessary. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
