Halifax CC misinformation

My husband, having listened to some of my comments from this site decided to go it alone this afternoon. Paid off his Halifax card after only having his interest rate reduced to 18.9% a few weeks ago, and asked for a lower rate. Was offered 14.9%, but wanted a 0% purchases deal.

Was told he could cancel the card and apply for a new one with an introductory offer this afternoon as they are now not allowed to upgrade.

He was furious when his on line application was declined. He rang to enquire and was told that there was no point trying again as a refusal is definite.

He has gone from a credit limit of 15K to none in the space of an afternoon.
I expect this will show on my credit file as another search and my plans to get another 0% BT will be scuppered too.

I would doubt that his closed account would have shown up on his file the same day, should he not have been told to wait for it to settle? I would have suggested he kept with the 14.9% as we want one to use and pay off monthly.

Any advice after the fact?

Thanks

The 'wait' for HBOS cards is around 30 days from closure...but I'd wait until the card was showing as 'settled' on a credit report before applying again.

It will (unless no search was done due to a 'policy rule', ie he already had a card!), but the search will only be visible to yourself and the CRA, ie other lenders do not see 'financial associate searches'.

    Thanks,

Hopefully he can try again in a while.

I hadn't realised that his searches wouldn't appear to lenders on my file. I still have some (a lot of) tidying up to do with my finances, including the DD challenge.

The mobile contract I am paying for (30 pounds a month) is for a contract that I phoned to cancel in Nov 2006 when the phone was stolen, not my phone which my husband is paying for.

    Thanks again
