I'm about to buy a fujifilm s9600 in the next do or so once i find the best deal/guarantee etc..
It says they can use Compact Flash or XD cards..is there a better one to look out for?
I already have some XD cards off an old camera that still have pics on but i'm not sure if these will work or need to be reformatted?

IMO there isn't a simple answer as to which is better. CF is older technology and much bulkier, but typically cheaper for a given size as it's more "generic".
XD is less versatile, in that it can only normally be used in Fuji or Olympus products, but I ~think~ that read and write data rates are faster than normal CF cards.
One more thing to check - some Fuji cameras will only accept cards up to 2Gb and are fussy about which type of XD card you use (type M or H, IIRC), but there's a table on the Fuji website which clearly defines what the limits are for each camera - and the s9600 is recent so you should be Ok.
The s9600 should read your old XD cards fine without needing to reformat them.0 -
Thats great info thanks fwor. I didnt realise about the different types of XD cards so off to have a look at that
