AMV files MP4 player

Hi

Forgive me if this has been unswered before, I did a search but to be honest didn't understand the answers!

I've just bought my son what I thought was an MP4 player from ebuyer.

He has been unable to download MP4 videos onto it. I checked the instructions and it says 'movie' is only available to AMV files!

What are these? Where do we get video in this format?

Is this really an MP4 player I've bought, or being a bit technically challenged have I been duped?

Please help my son is so upset that we cannot get it to work!

For once, Wikipedia has got it about right.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

    Thanks for the reply chuckles.

The only thing I understood on that article was that I don't think I've bought an MP4 player. You live and learn!
My son is really upset though cause he paid for it with his own money.

You may find some comfort in reading Ebuyer's policy on returning the item. Look towards the bottom of their opening page.

"Music format: MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA, WMV,ASF, WAV, MTV, AMV, JPEG, BMP"

Can't see anything in there about MP4..........fire it back at them.

Yeah I know now! But it's called Stage Zoom MP4 Player so I pressumed that it would play MP4 just like I bought a DVD player and presumed (correctly that time!) that it played DVDs!?!

Thanks for your help, I'll take more care to read things properly in future!

    Hi
There's an amv converter available for Linux.
Perhaps there's one for Windows too.
Here is a YouTube video that I converted to amv format:-

These players often come with software for converting files to AMV format. If not, I think SUPER can do it - http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

If it doesn't, you could try http://www.bytessence.com/bamvc.html

The thing is, there's not really a clear definition of what exactly MP4 is, so that leads to a lot of confusion. When cheap media players are advertised as 'MP4 players', it usually means they're capable of playing some video files, although usually in obscure formats (like AMV).
