which airport should we fly from?

Hello

There are 4 of us going to Majorca on 18th July and although we live in different parts of the country (north east/midlands & merseyside) we want to travel from the same airport. We dont mind driving or getting a train to meet up.

Is it just hit and miss/depend on airline alone where it would be cheaper to fly from or does anyone know if it's better to fly from a smaller airport or one of the main ones like Manchester.

Thanks

Given it's easy to get to Manchester Airport from the areas you mention, it makes more sense than trying a small airport like Leeds/Bradford or even East Midlands

However given the size of Majorca it makes even more sense for you to meet up when you arrive in Majorca and save yourselves all that extra travel time / cost

I would agree that it's better to meet up when you get there. We flew as a family to France from three different airports and managed to meet up at the airport without too much difficulty; there are far more frequent flights to Majorca so I think your decision-making should be based on convenience and cost, rather than all trying to fly together.

I also agree that it makes more sense to meet up there. However, if you did want to fly together, then assuming the flights are the right price, EMA has good value on site parking, and isn't too big so is possibly easier for groups? x

Good value if you are parking in the long term car parks on site; bad value if you are dropping people off as you only get 10 minutes "free" before the charges leap up.

I don't personally like EMA precisely because it's so small, but it depends on your preferences I suppose. I personally vastly prefer BHX, and it has the benefit of its own railway station which could be a convenient way to get there with no parking costs.

However it's a 3 hour drive from the NE - assuming nothing happens around the M1 / M18 junction

Depends on what you class at the NE, the OP doesn't really go into detail.

BTW MarkyMarkD, to avoid the waiting charge, just pull into the hotel car park just outside the airport, and get the person landing to call you when they get in. We've not been charged yet! x

I've managed it within the 10 minutes every time, but it's a stupid limit. There are plenty of places you can hang around without getting in trouble, unlike some other airports, so why not just have a sensible limit in the first place?
