wireless router and phones???

I think my wireless router and cordless phones are clashing. I have a filter on them but my wireless conection seems to be constantly cutting off and we noticed once or twice it has happened when someone has rang the phone. How can I seperate them as obviously they both need to be connected to the main socket????

    Hi susi,

when you say "my wireless conection seems to be constantly cutting off" do you mean your wireless client (laptop/pc) is actually disconnecting from the wireless router or could it be that you mean the router is disconnecting from the internet, but you are remaining connected to the router via your wireless connection?

If it is the latter, then it is highly unlikely that the 'cordless' functionality of your phone is causing the problem, it is probably the 'phone' functionality of it, and would happen whether it was a corded or cordless phone. Do you have a corded phone in the house you could use to test this theory?

If it is the latter and is when a phone call is made then the first thing to try would be a new microfilter as they can become faulty. If this doesn't sort the problem then try plugging both your wireless router and telephone into a microfilter plugged directly into the master telephone socket in the house (where the telephone feed enters the building from your street/garden). This will rule out the possibility of internal wiring being the problem.

If it still exists after this then the problem lies with BT's wiring outside of the property and you'll have to get onto them to do something about it (this will more than likely take you a very long time with lots of phone calls).

If it is indeed that the 'cordless' functionality of your phone is making your client disconnect from the wireless router then this is very rare. You could try changing the wireless channel that your wireless router transmits on. It is probably set to "Auto" which allows it to detect the clearest frequency and use that. You can manually set it to any channel from 1 - 13 (although 1 - 11 is more common) to see if this improves it.

    Hope this helps.
