Nationwide

Hi, looking for a bit of advice....

I opened a flex acc last month in the hope of getting a debit card for my travels, however they could only give me a cash card.

I currently have a current acc with Bank of Scotland and do most of my transactions online - I never withdraw cash if Im out and about I use visa.

Can anyone offer advice on how to get the card upgraded without moving everything across - I do plan on using it as my main account, but only if I get the debit card.

Thanks in advance!

  • I was in the same position as you... waited 18 months and reapplied. I didn't have any SO's or DD's on the account, with only £50 in it, except when I withdrew cash abroad. Then I had to apply for a new flex account, got the visa debit card and offered a credit card as well. It's just time I'm afraid. Seems like there are a lot of people out there in the same position as you... and in todays society, a cash card is next to useless, that's why the only activity on the account was abroad!

They say 6 months then try again... but may be worthwhile waiting a little longer.

Hi, am a bit confused about that statement, I have been looking at possibly opening a flex account for the use of the card abroad, but I was of the impression that the cash card would not allow you to draw cash abroad, only in the UK? Am I mistaken?

I understand that the cash card will give you free cash withdrawals overseas, just like the debit card, though any purchases will have to be made by cash.

I am looking at opening a Nationwide account too, currently have a barclays account but going travelling to USA in September and wanted to use their free withdrawals abroad.

Trying to apply online and it says u need to deposit £100 when u first get the card? Can you deposit £100 then withdraw it straight away? I want to put money into the account along with 2 friends to buy our plane tickets but then just keep it open until september for when we travel. Anyone know if this is possible? Cheers

Edit - also we are renting a car out there and they require a "credit card" for a deposit, Im not sure how this is going to work because if I apply for a nationwide credit card there will be a max credit limit which I wont be able to go over surely?
