Child tax credit

hi there, im looking for some advice regarding my award for child tax credit. i have a child, who is 19months. My partner claims incapacity with a top up of income support. i am also unemployed.
the inland rev award is 41.99 a week. when my partner was working we were getting about 55.00 a week. i contacted the inland rev yesterday, and they said the amount we are getting is defiantly wrong and that they would do a manual calculation and send the new award out in the post.
my partner phoned them today, to see if they had done the new calculation. there was no note on the system about any of this and no new calculation had been done. he was told that the award we are getting now is 100% correct. They also had him on the system as being on JSA, even though they were informed in june 2007, of new benefits. they say they have no record of the change of circumstances (is there a difference between Incapacity and JSA when they work the award out for CTC, as they say there isn't).
they said the reason we got more when my partner was working was because my son was under 1. i thought the amount goes up as the child gets older, or am i wrong?
im very confused, as one is saying its right and another is saying its wrong (the amount we are getting).
i done a questionnaire on the inland rev site, and it says due to our circumstances, we're entitled to 71.94 a week???
would really appreciate some advice, as the inland rev are a waste of space!

CTC definately doesnt go up as they get older and never has.

You get extra until the child reaches one to help with the extra costs.

    Thanks for that.

You should be getting roughly £44 p/w based on your circumstances so what you say you are receiving sounds about right.
In the first year you get approx £10 p/w more to help with extra costs of having a baby.

How did you inform them that JSA changed to Incapacity Benefit? If by phone you should always take the advisers name, the date and time of the call. If you informed them by post this is almost always pointless - it either "doesnt arrive" or the information is not updated as there is not enough information in the letter.
Make sure it is correct now regardless.

IB differs from JSA in that, if it is income based JSA the income from it is not counted when calculating your award. IB is counted as income (except the first 28 weeks). If the JSA was contributions based it will count as income also.
