Unauthorised transaction

Good morning all - I would really appreciate someones help.

I recently had a holiday in Thailand and when I paid the hotel bill I gave the lady my Halifax debit card, she put it through the system and told me it did not work so I the paid with my Halifax credit card (got the receipt e.t.c)

When I returned home I checked my accounts and it turned out that the money had been paid twice - once on my credit card and once on the debit card she had told me did not work!

I called and e-mailed the hotel numerous times and eventually got my money refunded but it was roughly £50 short of what they had taken. I have since been unable to contact the hotel at all, they wont speak to me or respond to my e-mails.

I contacted Halifax to see if there was anything what could be done and was told "nothing at all"

Surely the transaction needed to be authorised somewhere along the line?

Does anyone know of anything I could do to reclaim my money other than going over there in person :-)

Please help! Thanks, Robinho
