Strange housing benefit payment

Hello,

I receive housing benefit of £160 fortnightly into my account. It was last paid as normal on 13 March, but then I unexpectedly received a payment of £1.63 on 20 March. I am not expecting anything to be paid until 27 March (tomorrow).

Within the last 3-4 weeks I have sent off my completed form for a review of HB having been receiving for a couple of years. I am self-employed and they seem to base their HB payment on income from my previous tax year (under £12k before tax).

I was wondering what the reason for this payment is. I am guessing either that I am no longer entitled to any/as much benefit and this is a small payment just to balance the books (I have had only a very small increase in self-employed income), or that for some reason the HB has increased, or that there has been an overpayment and from now on I will receive only £1.63 per fortnight.

I'm very confused and would be pleased to hear from anyone who has any experience of this.

Why not call the benefit office and ask?

Yes, I will do that when I have time tomorrow. I just wondered whether anyone here had had the same experience, out of curiosity.
