Wireless help needed

If i get 2mb Virgin broadband but i have no PC at all can i plug the broadband into a router and get wifi in my house? Do i need a PC to conigure the router?

it would need to plug into a router for you to get wifi yes, but you would need to configure the router, a laptop should be able to do it, connect your router to your laptop or PC and type in your internet address bar 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.2 and it will bring up your configuration settings for your router.

In short yes you'll need a PC. Any old PC/laptop with a LAN connection will do to set up.

From this question I guess you have a laptop that you want to use with wireless only and are not going to use a "wired PC" at all.

If I am correct, then if your laptop has wireless it will also have a built in lan connection. If so, all you need is a CAT 5 straight through cable.

Most times, the routers are already preconfigured so you might just be able to set up your wireless settings on your laptop with out connecting anything to the router.

Most people connect directly to the router to configure it - ie to disabel/enable advanced features etc.

If you are going to use wireless only I would turn off the "Broadcast SSID" as your neighbours will be able to see it.

Also, if no encryption has been applied (which i doubt) then get that set up as anyone could connect and ues your broadband for free.

yeah i'm trying to hook my Wii up.

Could i first install it on a rubbish old laptop then plub the ethernet cable direct into my Wii?

any ideas anyone?
