As well as Finnish and Swedish resorts, you might look into Iceland. Not Lapland as such but they still do all the same activities - i.e. husky sledging, trips to see the Northern Lights...
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...

becareful that you do not plan to go in the feb half term and also the Fins are on half term in feb too, this is over a 3 week period

check out www.laplandforum.com for more info and deinately go for a last min deal, we got one in the feb half term (luckily) and got a square deal with inghams (you don't know where you are staying or what the accommodation is) and we paid £1200 for 4 of us and ended up in a luxury 5 bedroomed log cabin, we are also going again in just over a week's time, again, a last min deal with crystal £140 each for flight and log cabin - they have a few deals left if you want to grab a bargain in the next few weeks, the snow is still plentiful too

    Hi,

what months are snow / ski season ?

We even went to the most Northerly McDonalds in the World in Rovaniemi, this was at the request of my 2 boys.

What tickled me about Rovaniemi was that even at the Arctic Circle there's still a couple of Irish pubs! :D

  • Me and my friends went to lapland last January and it was GREAT! We only spent 600 quid each app. all in. But which part of lapland do you want to go?

We went to Kiruna, the northest town in Sweden. We flew Ryanair to Stockholm and then took a sleeper train to Kiruna. Our hotel is just in front of the train station (Hotel Rallaren). 4-bedroom for GBP120 per night. But there is an even cheaaper alternative.

Camp Alta has accomondation for 3-bedroom at SEK400 per night. And they can pick u up from airport or train station. And at their camp, you can use their facilities like the sauna and the cross country skis.

They also offer tour packages for dog-sled, snow mobile to Ice hotel and lots more. Besides, they are situated at a location that is dark enough to see Northern Light, if you're lucky. No need to take on special tours for it. We only got to know about this place when we were there. We joined their snow mobile package to Ice hotel.

Let me know if you wan more info. Our trip was from 8th January to the 15th January 08.

    Hi,

what months are snow / ski season ?

usually dec to late april but this does depend, we were skiing there at christmas just gone but it was icy, when we went in feb the snow was amazing, over a meter deep and wonderful and powdery, we met some people there who said it was better snow that Canada so that's can't be bad, however if you are into high peaks with lots of sheer runs forget going to lapland as the highest peak is only 718 meters, the land is fairly flat with the odd fell here and there to ski on

you will love it there, so much to do and the snow is just wonderful, when we went in feb we played on sledges for the majority of the time adn the time spent with the kids was great

as for easter next year, I would not book now, I would wait for a last min deal as you don't know what the snow is going to be like, we are going this sunday and have paid something like 700 quid for all 4 of us and that's for flight, transfers and cabin for the week

the other activities you can do there aree:
    husky and reindeer safaries
    ski and snowboarding
    cross country skiing
    snow walking
    snowmobile trips
    ice fishing
    sledging
in some resorts they have tabogan runs and ice driving

there is so much to do and the Fins are great
