Sky Box....card needed??

Hello all...
i have a sky dish on our roof but no sky box...
i can get hold of a sky box, but would i correct in thinking that i can plug the box in without the card and receive the basic free channels????

    Wouldn't a freeview box be just as cheap if you can recieve it?

    you get more channels with the sky box, and besides im getting it for virtually next to nothing....

    Ah, I misread/ didn't understand that you were getting the sky box for free. I thought you were going to buy one.
