Tax Credits Help

My partner recently moved in with me and doesn't earn much. I contact TC immediately and did a check on entitledto. According to entitledto I should be entitled to approx £100 a week although TC are saying I am only entitled to £40 a week. I have a one year old child with huge nursery fee's and we both work so it is not feasible to take her out.

When I have previously checked entitledto regarding my old claim they have always came out the same as what I was receiving although on this occasion TC are saying I have it wrong. Is there anywhere else online I can do a quick check or does anyone know of any problems with the site?

Its based on your joint earnings so you need to advise what you both earn to enable people to check - £100 a week sounds wrong if you both work.

Help with childcare is capped quite low but again without knowing any figures nobody can check for you.

Thank you for your help. I ended up phoning tax credits and they have found the error and are now correcting it.

Ps it is only a high figure if you've assumed me and my partner earn a lot.

Hi, as far as i'm aware, your entitlement to WTC is dependent on your income and partners if you have one. I do know that if your child is registered at a 'registered' place you can receive upto 80% of the payment back. The tax credit can be a bit slow and frustrating but keep trying and eventually you should get your correct entitlement. Sometimes this can be backdated to 3 months but this varies as i have been told.

I thought the childcare element was part of the child tax credits, not working tax credits?

They have now changed my records and said I will be getting a new award and to phone back in 3 days. Although I still haven't seen the award that they did incorrectly 3 weeks ago still. They said it was posted although as they have done for the past two years, they're probably still sending it to my old address!

Childcare does actually come under working tax credit although it gets paid to the recipient of the child tax credit. The reason for this is if you are not working then there is no reason you can't look after your own children. The exeption to this is if you are incapacitated for childcare purposes because in that case there is a reason you can't look after your children.
