Anyone know of a firm which does Toshiba laptop repairs in the North West. I would prefer to take it somewhere to have it looked out first to see how much it costs to repair. The problem is with the AC inlet, I think it has a dry joint ot snapped pin as the laptop is getting no power.
Many thanks

I've repaired loads of laptops in this situation. From your description, it sounds like the socket may need replacing, or if you're lucky just resoldering. A very common fault on laptops is that the DC socket comes loose (Acer laptops are a particular swine for this type of thing, which is why I will never recommend them). This could be caused by lots of different things; rough treatment, over-use, possibly even overheating or other things.
I've had experience with Techno Mart (as Coolagarry recommends) and their service was fine - we bought parts from them more than actually using them for repairs, but they were knowledgeable and helpful and got the job done.
The official Toshiba repair company in the UK is Topaz Support - www.topazsupport.co.uk - and they're one of the most helpful and knowledgeable companies I've ever used the services of, but they may not do a component level repair such as this, they'd probably toe the toshiba line and tell you that the motherboard needs replacing.
If this was my computer, I'd get a replacement socket from www.laptopsockets.co.uk (a horrible site to navigate your way around, but a really impressive amount of stock) and solder it on myself, but you need a lot of courage and to be handy with a soldering iron.
Sorry if this sounds obvious, but DON'T TAKE IT TO PC WORLD. They'll write it off immediately.Team Fishcake - Silly, strange, surreal and stupid original comedy0
