Flights to the USA end of Sept 2008

Hi there, can anyone offer some assistance?

My mum passed away last month and one of her wishes was to scatter some of her ashes off the coast of California where my sister lives.

To this end I need 4 adult return flights direct to LAX for 7 - 10 days during the last week in september.

Not sure which airport will be best. I am based in Staffordshire and we will be also going to Brighton to scatter some ashes on the "ashes tour" so have access to Gatwick and Heathrow.

Any tips on days to travel on, airports to use or times to fly would be gratefully apreciated!

    sorry for your loss... :(

hmm.. gatwick, heathrow, manchester, birmingham... i think any of them are your best choices to get out to the USA.....

the only tip there really is, is to stay a saturday night, as if you go midweek, fares can be astronomical....
and then its a case of searching around for the best price....

just done a quick search on kayak, but can't find anything cheaper than £477 each, with airfrance, direct... (through ebookers.com) (LHR - LAX)

£474 with bmi, from MAN, changing once, (again, ebookers.com)

fly out of the UK in the AM, fly back from LAX, in the PM, and arrive the following morning.... thats the way TATL flights normally go....

Brighton to Gatwick is certainly the easiest of journeys but offset against the lack of direct flights to LAX from Gatwick-Personally I prefer indirect as they are often cheaper and I prefer to get off halfway stretch my legs and get out of the terminal and breathe some unprocessed air (they get a bit upset if you try this on the direct flights :) )

  • Thanks for the replies, will investigate further. Those prices don't seem to bad at all.

Is there an easy way to see how good each airlines economy sections are?
  • There are some cheaper deals if you can fly indirect to LAX.

seatguru.com should give you some idea of what to expect, and what seats to avoid, and then you have flyertalk.com which is where the elites and frequent fliers of each airline gather to complain about their service... they're a friendly bunch, and are always willing to answer questions....
