Advice on Credit Card Fraud

Hello, this is my first post and all advise would be much appreciated!

My brother works abroad and has 2 current accounts. One he uses frequently and the other he barely touches. The one that is hardly used has an overdraft facility of 1500.00. As he is away a lot, the debit card for this is kept at my dad's house.

We have recently discovered that the card had been taken by my other brother's 'friend' who noticed it at my dad's and nicked it to fraudulently used it to rack up 2 grand of debt on a poker website. He has admitted it and we have subsequently reported it to the bank and told them that we would like them to investigate as (staggeringly!) the police will no longer let you report it to them, you have to go through the bank!

Interest on the account is rapidly accruing and the bank still keep sending letters asking for the money to be deposited. We have explained the situation to them over and over again and are waiting for them to complete their investigation before we find out if the money will be refunded, which I can gather can take weeks, if not months. It's a nightmare. Also my brother is concerned about what all this could do to his credit rating.

Has anyone been in this situation before or have any advice about what can be done to get it all sorted??

  • i had money taken from a card but credit card company paid back within 2 weeks cause as i was made to believe they have to prove you have taken it yourself otherwise they have to refund.

i had to phone the police to get a crime number to be able to put in claim with credit card company, so im not sure why police aren't getting involved, surely this is theft.

are they not going to charge the lad who has admitted taking it, as i can't see credit card company giving it back.

surely it should have been in a safe place away from prying eyes, they might think it has been a set up.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a lady i worked with had £6000 taken off her card but the card company thought it was her son who had done it, and hence she was still trying to sort it out after 2 years, don't know what happened in the end cause she emigrated.
