As mentioned already (#9 above), about a month or so.
... and how I can get a 'credit report' to check it is closed?

For help, see the *How to obtain credit reports* sticky above.

Call credit card CS (direct landline number 01315498050) or Visit a Halifax branch, Ask them if they will allow you to transfer/swap cards. They will close one card and open another and this should happen without having another credit search registered on your credit file.

Hi, Thanks for your advice - sorry but I did what I should have done months/years ago and cancelled 4 of my old credit cards which I don't use this morning and the Halifax was one of them. I guess I can now re-apply for the Halifax card in a month to six weeks time!!! In the meantime I will have to makesure I only use my current Ulster card for purchases that I can definately pay off straight away and not accrue interest (which means saying 'NO' to my teenage daughter when she wants something put on my card!!!)
