If it is a tax enquiry as opposed to tax credits, you might be better on the Taxes board.
Can you give us more information? Are you self employed? Are you aware of any possible underpayment of tax?
From limited experience in this area (I deal with finances for a few small businesses, and some have had tax enquiries), where an underpayment is discovered, they will try to force you to pay quickly. However, if it is not possible for you to do this, they will work with you to arrange a suitable payment plan.
If you are employed, or if the enquiry is into your tax credits payments, the advice will differ xGone ... or have I?0 -
The enquiry is into Tax.
Yes I am self employed.
Am not sure about underpayment
will they want to see me how long will it go on?0 -
In theory, as long as your accountant has been doing their job, you should have been paying the correct tax. But in practice this is often not the case (some accountants can be quite creative with their figures).
In my experience there have been face to face meetings, usually with the accountant also present but not always. As long as you are honest (and you clearly want to be), they will be quite fair with you.
TBH I would try not to worry until they come back to you with any questions (easier said than done, I know). It could just be a completely random check and the next thing you will hear will be 'thank you for your time, everything is ok'.Gone ... or have I?0
