200+ free fabric samples ...

... I realise this would normally automatically go on the freebies board, and if the mods think it should go there, then no doubt they will move it. But as we have quilters, etc, in OS, I thought I'd post it here first.

If you can get hold of the August issue of British Patchwork & Quilting (September issue on sale Friday 19 August so be quick), there are a couple of ads in there offering free samples. If you can't get hold of it, pm me and I'll give you the address details (if it isn't classed as a referral).

(EDIT: Addresses below.)

Offer 1
"200+ free fabric samples" + mail order price list available from Fashion 'N' Fabrics for 6 x 1st class stamps. (May not be fat quarters, but may be useful for small patchwork.)

Offer 2
"Sample pack" available from Green Hill Patchwork & Quilting for 4 x 2nd class stamps.

I haven't sent for mine yet, so these may be a waste of time (i.e. quality/size wise) and apologies in advance. But you never know ...

Subscribe to BP&Q and get 2 extra issues free, or save £9.

Subscribe to Magic Patch and save between £3.50 and £7.

Subscribe to Popular Patchwork for 13 issues and get 8 fat quarters in Christmas fabrics free.

It's a bit of a mixed bag isn't it? Definitely of interest to Old Stylers yet almost by definition belongs on freebies...

    ..but not just yet :)

I'll have a word with the BG who will know how much interest their regulars might have in this. Anyway, it'll give the thread a little more time here first :)

Ive often thought that, but when I worked for an interior designer it seemed that some companies took them back, and the others told us to throw them away. This was pre-o/s of course, id have taken them in a shot if I was quilting back then! Its probably worth asking companies if you can have them when they are done, they can only say no!

Spendaholic = am about to send you a PM for those addresses, that would be mighty handy! Cant afford the mag at the mo!

Send a quick note asking them to send you whichever free pack telling them you are enclosing the requested number of stamps - and ask them not to pass on your details to any third parties (in case they share their mailing list and you'd rather they didn't).

Do furniture shops ever rid those fabric colour samplers. Surely they must, wonder if they save them...
After starting this thread I noticed a haberdashery shop a little closer than HobbyCraft, and so I asked her this question ... she generally sends her fabric samples to schools for children with autism, but she said if someone asked for any and she had some in stock, she'd let them have them for nothing.

However, the thing I found particularly useful is that when she reaches the end of a fabric roll, she bags up the scraps and sells them at £1 per bag or 3 for £1.50 (what a bargain!). Perfect for patchwork and other small projects.

So, if you have a curtain shop locally, or even a haberdashery, ask them what happens to the ends of their rolls. They possibly do cut them into fat quarters or they might sell them as remnants ... or they might just chuck 'em in the bin. Worth a try.

    Hello!

I live next door to an interior designer, she has got shelves and shelves of material left over. So far we have made curtains for the bathroom and a beautiful patchwork cover for my double bed!!! :D

Worth looking through the yellow pages for local designers to find out if they keep theirs too!
