    Hi Debt sucks:),

I would have thought your car would be OK, as you're not the one going BR.

hi i understand they cant take my car. but my petrol and tax ins etc would come out of his soa as i dont work

But your OH's is going BR, it would depend on whether the car is essential for getting to work, or simply convenient (not being funny:), that's how they look at it), and do the people he picks up work for him?

hi yes the people who picks up for work for him

If so that would be another case in your favour. That said, someone will clarify in a minute I'm sure, but I think cars under £2000 may be exempt anyway?

    many thanks for the reply

    Cheers.

Too much h/k £450?. The rule so i am told is approx £7 per day per adult. Someone today who is single, rents a room at their parents was told to put down at least £150. So to me £450 for a family of 4 including all cleaning products and toiletrees(sp) is actually a little on the low side. Then again i am no expert:o See what others say debtsucks.

hi dalip thanks for the reply, i have been informed that 450 would be a rough guide for a family of four also, suppose we will have to see!!!

the car situations stressin me at the min, i have a different worry every day:o

It doesn't matter to much if you are over your income. Just say you are trying to get it down to the OR. You will need to write a letter on why you need to keep both cars ie distance to school and lack of buses. If they do disallow your car you may be given the oppurtunity to buy it back. Once you have gone BR then check Martind articles and get those insurances down.

EDIT: Have a look at this link to help you prepare your letter to the OR.

    Hi debtsucks,

Yep when I posted it, I'd forgotten your OH was the sole earner and as you say will pay fuel & tax.

Someone who can categorically answer your questions will be along in a bit.

    Cheers

Just put it down as Phone-£48 and Mobile-£30

I am afraid no-one can give you a definitive answer on the cars. It can very much depend on the OR. But if he says no, then see if you can offer £50-100 for yours, then with your allowances maxed as far as you can and the insurances down as far as you can you might still be able to afford it.

    Hi,

Obviously your car is safe as you said because you are not going br. It all depends if the OR finds that the car for your OH is essential and I think he makes a very good case for just that.

The OR cannot decide whether you need a car or not, but can disallow the payments from the BR person towards running the car.

If you check out Tigerfeets comments on your SOA then they are very realistic, although I feel that the swimming lessons may be disallowed. I dont see how OH could get an IPA on those fiquires. Dont forget child benefit does not count as income for a proposed IPA.

    Good luck

As an extra thought, The amount OH has put down as income is that net income ( profit) after all his business expenses have been deducted ? If his car is for business use then all its costs should come off the gross earnings from invoices along with such things as stationary, car repairs, and any other costs associated with the business including tax and NI costs.

This may reduce the amount of net income your OH has, which is the income assessed for the IPA .

    Hi Tigerfeet,

Yes that is one of the " possible" allowances along with the haircuts, holidays, etc. I usually find that they will disallow often one possible allowance perhaps saying that if you wish to provide swimming lessons then perhaps the average non BR family would reduce their holiday savings as a result. I am not saying I agree, just that it does happen.
