False Positive Feedback

Buyer won 3 items from my auction and sent a request for discount postage. NO where on my listings does it say I offer such. But I thought ok you’ve won 3 items; 2 of the postage were £2.x and I knocked off a £1 each and the last item was £1.x and I knocked off the pound and sent the invoice to the buyer. 3 days later buyer paid.

I sent out the item and got email from the buyer stating the amount on postage was less than the amount I invoiced him…so I went through the usual explaining that the p & p was post & packaging and not just post alone, packaging includes, envelop sellotape tissue paper wrapping paper….etc after all my patient explanation he came back with that its still not the cost reflected on the parcel.

He then went on to complain that I incorrectly described one of the items I sold. Now this is a vintage kaftan and has no size as such in the Title I stated from 10 -20 and in the listing I did not put a size and I explained why I did not put a size in the listing.
Buyer stated that it was misleading and again patiently I explained as it had no size I advertised it to a wide audience and I had not put a size in the listing and why did buyer not check the measurements in the listing. Buyer said because I had put 10 - 20 thought it should fit a 16. Buyer then goes on a long threatening rant about my dodgy dealings that he knows about dodgy practices from sellers like me, that so many forums warn of dodgy sellers and that ebay is clamping down on antics of seller like me. But don’t worry I will leave you positive feedback.

Now I am not a power seller and I am not a regular seller but one thing I will say for my self is that I am a good seller. I am not dodgy and I do not practice any antics. I was fuming  I was ready to Neg the guy and thought I would wait to see if he would leave the feedback. Buyer left feed back but marked me down for all DSRs, in one fell swoop all my DSRs went down 1 point. Hence this is a false positive….it looks like a positive but in theory really where ebay are concerned it’s the DSR that matters and as such it is a false positive.

Why oh why don’t buyers have detailed buyers rating points as well where we could mark them down and still give them a positive????

Double neutral = Negative

That was just the beginning I had another buyer buy a bag from me, there were a couple of marks on the underside of the bag quite faint and not really noticeable, otherwise bag has hardly been used and in excellent condition. I listed the bag and forgot to mention the faint marks underside of the bag.

Buyer got the item she mailed me that I had not mentioned the marks and I said honestly it was a genuine error on my part and she should send the bag back and that I would give her full refund including the postage to send it back. Buyers said oh no don’t worry that it does not really affect the bag and it could hardly be seen and she liked the bag and wanted to keep it.

Cool I thought next thing got a neutral feed back with comment that bag had marks on it nothing else just bag had marks on it????? :o

What is wrong with these people that comment says nothing but yet says a lot… why don’t people think of these thing and how it affect others, what happened to a simple comment such as oh nice bag liked it had marks seller offered refund but liked the bag so kept it……would that have been so difficult.

Sorry for the long rant thought the nice long break would have lessened my irritation but no ….I am still fuming really want to neg the both of them….

sorry you are having a bad experience with ebay. I've just had a buyer buy a book from me about 10 days ago. I invoiced him and gave him options of airmail or surface mail and he chose the airmail option and he paid through paypal to an e.mail address that is not mine so it showed up as payment pending. I then got an e.mail from paypal saying confirm your e.mail address and claim your payment. I e.mailed the buyer and said that he had not actually paid me and if he would like to cancel the payment and pay me at my e.mail address I would post his item out. He responded by telling me that he had not actually made a payment directly to me it went through paypal (God he's so quick why didn't I think of that!!!)
and he suggested that I get in touch with paypal and sort it out as it had nothing to do with him(apart from him sending payment to an e.mail address that does not exist!!! and it was not the address on the invoice). I decided to try and set up the e.mail address he had paid to just to try and sort it out quickly and hopefully easily, and low and behold it's too long and no way could it ever be an e.mail address.Paypal would not help as it was not my e.mail address for my account so they could not discuss it with me. So I e,mailed him again and said that I had tried to sort it out, to no avail and politely suggested that it really would be easier if he would just cancel the payment and then pay me through paypal to my e.mail address. He sent me another message saying he has given all the facts to paypal and he awaits their response with interest.
The payment was cancelled shortly afterwards. He still did not pay-I even sent him a payment request to make it easier and I e.mailed him to let him know what was happening.
He e.mailed me this morning saying he has found the same item elsewhere and no longer wants the item. There was no discussion. just I have found it elsewhere, I will not be having the one you have sold to me type of thing.
To my mind that is not the same as agreeing not to continue with transaction and I have filed an npb-I have told him that I have done this as I need to claim my fvf back as I cannot afford to lose my fees and the sale. I have been buying and selling (odds and sods) on ebay for about 5 years. I have only had 1 negative out of about 1000 feedback left (and that was left without the buyer even contacting me to say there was a problem!!!)
I just hope I get my fees back.

Sorry tatty hope you get your fees back, this is the main reason people are leaving Ebay, unfortunatley if I dont neg these people soon, I wont get the chance to do it as a seller anymore. Its a dastardly shame, for every good & experienced seller that leaves ebay, a numpty joins.....:o

    Thanks.
I know what you mean. My OH has an internet based business and he sells stuff on ebay, but things are definitely getting worse. He thinks he should weather it out and see what happens.
Getting back to your problem with ebay, I hope you have blocked the buyers concerned? I have, and I always block any problem buyer on my OHs account too.
I have my own ebay account as I buy stuff for the kids etc on it and I sell clothes they've grown out of and books and literally odds and sods. We don't sell business stuff on my account coz I'd have to have a business account then and OHs books are enough work without trying to put 2 accounts through the books!!!

Another tale of woe about a buyer!

Do we all think the buyer experience has been improved too much now?

To put the other side, I bought something that was not as described when it arrived. I gave neutral feedback. Seller is narked about it and has sent me a threatening email saying that I must remove this neutral comment. Why? It's fair as far as I'm concerned - the item was not as in the picture, but not bad enough to bother with a return.

Yes thanks Tatty blocked them both also reported the guy for the threatening rant but dont know what ebay will do as he left positive feedback.

Beenie the irritating part for me was just the comment, bag had marks on it nothing else i just feel that buyer could have left a more factual comment to explain the situation better, bag had marks alone just seems to loaded.

Also Beenie, I would report your seller to ebay, theres really no room for threatening emails no matter the situation, thats wrong.
  • Did everybody leave a response to the feedback? I had a similar experience and just left a follow up. Something cutting and to the point just makes the person who left the original feedback look silly and it makes you feel sooo much better.

Maybe it does not warrant a return, but did you let the seller know there was a problem before leaving feedback? They may have been willing to issue a full or partial refund. If they ignored any attempt from you to resolve, then a neutral was fair, if not even lenient.

Personally speaking, if I receive a neutral or neg without the buyer contacting me first, I reply with a negative for poor communication and inappropriate use of feedback.
Harsh? Maybe, but in my opinion it was not a positive experience, and eBay would be a much nicer place if people just took a few seconds to email eachother....

I was left positive but marked down on dsr's comment was something like postage was abit stiff..... curtian linings charged 4.85 the postage itself was 4.25 so 60p pakcing was considered steep. They got it day after payment as well. I messaged and said i thought it was abit harsh. Explained that it was heavy so could not go 2nd class. I had an exstremely rude reply saying i was miffed it went at 99p which missed the point entirely. I guess they were to thick to look at the postage label.

Got a dispute open on on item was a zero feedback buyer now at around 14 2 negs are for non payment and they have left around 20 neutrals and negs. just hoping when dispute closes they gets the kicked off. They have not left feedback for me yet but it should get removed if they kicked off quickly enough.

I went to dispute with the buyer and went the non paying bidder route. I was refunded my fees back, but they have reversed his non paying bidder strike and today he has left me a negative!!!! So I'm furious. I have e.mailed ebay but don't know whether they will do anything or not-it's all for the buyer these days

The question is do I leave him a negative and stoop to his level or do I just leave it and wait to see if ebay remove his feedback for me???
