Which separate DVD player for file compatibility?

I'm gonna be getting a new TV soon, and thought I'd finally get a DVD player so I don't have to use the PC to watch them! Since there seem to be so many available for £30 or less, I wondered if there were any that are better than others?

I'd find it particularly useful if I could burn a CD or DVD with video files (AVI, MPEG... errr... whatever format they come in) on my computer and then play them on the DVD player. Is this possible? Are there any cheap ones that also have USB sockets (for a memory key or external hard drive)?

Oh, and (just to be awkward) I'd like it to be region-free, and ideally be able to manually select which region the player should "think it's in" to get round the Region Coding Enhancement (RCE) that some studios use.

Any recommendations/suggestions would be gratefully received!

Yes and yes. You can get a DivX player with USB and memory card inputs for less than £40 using Quidco. See:

I believe it's region-free too but you could ask in-store, maybe
The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.
