Keeping/replanting Hyacinth bulbs

I have quite a few hyacinths, plants in pots and glass jars, which flowered and are now dying back.

Can I keep the bulbs and what do I need to do to keep them? The plants pretty much only have leaves on now as the flowers have wilted.

Cheers

You can plant them in the garden - just cut the dead flower stem off and put the bulb in about 3" down. they should flower for you next year, but later in the year than they did when they were indoors.

I always give them a go in the garden but to be honest they quite often just disappear presumably dead... but its worth a try...

I don't have a garden, sorry should have said that! So does that mean they are doomed for flower heaven?

Can't help you with that roger but I wonder if you can help me ?
I was given two hyacinth bulbs at Christmas and two of the bulb shape topped glasses to grow them in. Nothings happened. One eventually had a bit of a shoot on it but hasn't grown since. It;s still sitting on our window sill and I've been hoping but not a clue whether maybe the bulbs were a bit 'duff' or whether I did something wrong.
I might not have any luck this year now but I'd like to know if anyone else has grown them. Have you ?

roger_c - yes unless you can somehow keep them fed and watered to build up their reserves in the bulb for next year. Thye do this via the leaves, so you would have long straggley leaves in pots until about June.

IMO not worth the effort without a garden to just pop them in

mary43 - did you add water to the bottom part of the glasses?

Maybe I'll give them to my mum and dad and they can put them in their garden.

Yes, I put water in the vases, followed the instructions to the last letter. One bulb just didn't have a shoot on it at all and started to flake away so I chucked that one but the one that did manage a shoot I persevered with.
Maybe the bulbs were just past it. I'd like to have another go next year.......don't like to give up on these things.
