MIL collections - HELP!!

DON'T pay any money to MIL Collections, I honestly believe they are scammers. I have received 3 letters regarding a debt I apparently owe to a Mail order company that I have never shopped with. I've contacted the Company (Kaleidoscope), who have confirmed that I do not have an account with them and do not owe them any money. They have never heard of MIL Collections, so I would assume this is just another scam. I phoned MIL to try and sort this out and was told by the extremely rude operator that he would drag me though the courts, only of course after I threatened to rip his head off. I have letters from MIL Collections and copies of emails from the company I'm supposed to owe..and don't! I will be taking these down to the local Police Station forthwith.0

hi same here i recieved a letter from them today i rang and asked what this debt was for i was informed it was a catalogue (look again)debt from 1995 , i told them i owed no one any money and hung up on them , as i am certain i owe no one anything
they did ask for a goodwill payment that would be refunded should the debt be a already paid duplicate !!! i told them no i owed no one , when they contact again i shall ask for the cca and proof, luckily it will be by mail as my phone is private and i put 141 in before i dialled their number.
If this is a debt from 1995 and there has been no contact since then it would be statute barred anyway. If there is no contact about a debt for 6 years then that is what happens. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Received a letter from MIL collections today for an outstanding account of over £500 for a company I have never dealt with. I called them and the phone was just answered with an "hello"; no company name or anything given. After checking I was indeed through to MIL I explained I had received a letter from them and was put through to someone else who asked me to confirm my name, which I did, and my date of birth, which I refused to do. Told them I'd never heard of the company they were collecting for and until they gave me more info I wasn't giving them any personal info as I didn't think they were legitimate. They said that in that case they couldn't deal with my call and terminated the call.
Any finance/credit we have is all up to date so I know I don't owe this debt. I am concerned they were adament they needed me to confirm my dob and wouldn't deal with the call without it. I was a victim of identity fraud years ago and know how easy it is for people to get credit in your name with this sort of info.
Be careful you don't give them any information over the phone that they haven't provided in letters to you. Have read on this forum and other sites they are very dodgy, buying up old debts and attempting to collect them, using old databases that are out of date.0 -
Guys.
I have received a letter today from a company called MIL collections. it says I have 72hours to settle the debt or its court action.
Its regarding a radio rentals debt outstanding for £124.
firstly, I have no idea what this is for. the very rude chap on the phone couldnt even give me a date specific of how old this so called debt is, secondly, he said it has been passed to them from a company called mackenzie hall.
I remember receiving a letter from them last year, basically saying the same thing, however reading reports on here, and from other sources, the general consensus was to NOT reply. so I didnt.
What should I do next?? I am reluctant to ring this mackenzie hall. I may just wait for court action, and see what happens??
Help and advice please
thanks steiff
I have also just received a letter from MIL Colelctions saying i owe £150 for money that i owe to banksmart
I then spoke to a cocky, rude guy who said if i pay it now i would then they would close the account and that would be it, other wise the charges would spiral. I asked him to send me a copy of the contract and he said he unless i worte to them (no date on the contract that i enterered into with banksmart when i asked?!)
I instructed banksmart in 2007 to claim bank charges for me on a no claim no fee basis. THey wrote to tell me that they had failed to win and that my claim was closed. that was a couple of years a go. Recently i got a letter saying that i owen them money and now one from MIL Collections who say i have 14 days to pay?!
What can i do!!! this seems rediculous!

Hi Guys
I just got a letter from MIL about a dept which i was dealing with another company (Pastdue credit solutions).
Back in Feb 2011 i sent them a letter asking for the credit agreement/deed of assignment. Giving them the time limit etc.
I never recieved any reply now i get a letter from MIL who i assume bought the dept.
My qeastion is can they do this after the time limit on Pastdue has ended?
Any light you could shed would be a great help
Thanks0 -
MIL are scamsters. The way they go about there affairs is nothing more than phone bullying by claiming to have far more power than they do.
Lucky I came across this forum as I needed confirmation that they do these things elsewhere. I have just started a thread on it.0 -
Hi, i just received a phonecall from this company who were very rude 2 me. It was for a debt with bongaloans which i do owe them but i am still waiting for bongloans to contact me (obvisouly they dont bother) i tried to explain my situation to this company but all they kept sayin is to give them my card details which i refused as i have never heard of them and i know to never give card details over the phone. I asked why isnt there any letters been sent out which he replied there on his desk now. I told him to send them out then i know who they are & we can sort something out. He got even ruder then and said he dont belive im gonna pay it all so he is passing it on!!! Who is in the wrong here??0

hi, a couple of pointers for you, any debt over 6 years old is outside the statute of limitations and therefore "not lawfully enforceable" I suspect this explains a lot of companies selling old debts at 5 yrs, also you should not be afraid of the county court threat, a number of points are if they lose there case you can ask the court for costs and compensation!!! you then have a ccj against them, I did just this to Santander cards uk ltd
further if you lose the case two things in your favour are any interest and fees are controlled by the court (currently 8% less than all these companies charge) also the court will only order repayments that you can afford ie £1.00 per month if you don't have any money. they don't like going to court as it restricts what they can charge and stops them from then harresing you (if they do they are in contept of court ) (arrestable).
another idea for you is if it is under six yrs old and you agree you owe it send them £1.00 per month , don't negotiate with them just send it (only if you agree you owe it, if not you are admitting liability by doing this) if they cash the £1.00 they are deemed to have "accepted payment" and cannot pursue you any more, they wont like it as if you say owe £20,000 you will never pay it off.
also if they use bullying tactics report them to the office of fair trading who have the power to remove their lic, you will find they suddenly become all reasonable.
finally they can only pursue a debt that is not contested as being liable if you contest liability they have to send it back, most of these companies do not have a copy of the "original signed contract" (we had one believe it or not Barclay card could not supply an "original signed contract" the "signed" is very important as they will try and send you a copy of an unsigned one and rely on that. all companies have to have a lic in the uk under the office of fair trading and fca, for instance if you come across a companie called FV1 they are part of hsbc and morgan Stanley , they do not exist in the uk and have no lic, so therefore you cannot owe them anything,
I hope this was of use.0
