Cancelling car insurance

Got a bit of a problem with my car insurance, I've had it for just 3 months and now need to cancel because I'm moving abroad.
I know that when i ring them theyre going to kick up a fuss about paying
money to cancel, but I havent got money to pay for it so that could be fun.
However, all the documents that were meant to be signed and returned haven't as i found them yesterday, does that mean that they cant charge
or is the usual loophole for car insuarnce still apply

I cancelled my car insurance last year just by calling them and asking to cancel with no fees to be paid or anything - I'd the insurance about 4 months x0
