Capital One just tried to pull a fast one on PPI

I received a credit card from them Fall of 2007, never really got round to activating it untill today as i was looking at my credit report and seen it on there so thought i would activate it, use and pay of in full each month to help with credit score,

Well,, just phoned them, spoke with Gavin, he was going through the usual rigmarol, well,, he then started to speak about the included protection insurance incase of, blah blah income protection, 10% of balance each month, blah life cover, totaly paid off, all for only 79p per £100 and is based on balance so if your cards clear you dont pay,,
Nothing said about being optional, so i stopped him, told him straight off i had income and life cover so no need, i think he could tell i new what i was talking about, up untill that moment he was my friend and would do anything for me, but as soon as i spoke about PPI he said, thats the card activated, good day,

LOL,, cheek

So they didnt exactly pull a fast one, just used an 'old as the dinosaurs' sales technique that is used in pretty much all industries?! And of course he quickly finished servicing your request when it was obvious not going to get a sale, the next mug in line might end up taking it out, time is money and all that!

I wouldn't say they tried to con you.

Ever phoned up about car insurance and they try to get you to take out breakdown cover too? It's called cross selling.

You told them you didn't want it, they then stopped telling you about it. To me, there's nothing wrong with them offering you the choice. In fact, I'd even go as far as saying that it's quite good in that they didn't try any hard sell tactics and didn't keep going on after you'd said no.

No doubt if you'd said that you may be interested then they will have had to go through a script explaining about it in more detail.

It's misselling - and an illegal practice. It's one of Martins top excuses for PPI reclaiming and Capital One have been punished for this before.

    Its not misselling.

The person started to tell the op about PPI, the OP said he wasnt interested so the person then stopped. How would the op know about the product unless they are told about it when they call?

Now if the person had put on the OP's account without telling him about it then that would be mis selling

I was talking to a girl for A+L for 15 mins about PPI on loan, she just couldn't grasp I didn't want/need it.

here's a few lines of the conversation for a £5000 loan for a car....

ME - I have life insurance for death that covers my house + £30000
HER- But you will want that to all go to your partner not to pay your debts off
ME - Thats what its there for to pay any debts off
HER - Yes but wouldn't it be better if they got it all!

    NEXT.....
HER - how much sick pay do you get
ME - 2 years full pay
HER - so what would you do after 2 years
ME - i'd use my savings
HER - yes but if you took out the ppi you could keep your savings
    ME - no thanks
HER - I don't think you understand sir, your not fully covered in the event that you should ever be taken ill.

    NEXT.....
HER - What if you lose your job,
ME - I have savings and i'd get help of my parents
HER - well if your going to do that why don't you go to them for the money or use your saving.
ME - 1, because thats cheeky asking parents and 2nd because savings are for a rainy day, I.E if I lose my job.

This went on and on and on, she got soooo moody with me it was hilarious, I could hear the anger in her voice because she spent so much time on it and got absolutely no where!!

She also couldn't grasp that for £10 a month for the life cover they wanted, I could have ~£100'000 of cover with direct line, lol. Idiots hey
  • Hi, I'm new to all this and after reading posts etc i sent off letters for my husbands CO card for the PPI reclaim. We received a reply stating that the policy was sold over the phone on strict script so that it is clear and not mis-leading and that the full docs would be sent out and a 30day cancellation period applies. He took the card out in 2002 so i dont know where he stands is this just a letter to try fob me off from claiming. Can anyone help?
