My sister and I cleared out the hideously cluttered room where the mice were. We found no nests, just a LOT of poo, but we did find an airbrick, and I think they must have been coming in from outside. I have now hoovered the room so thoroughly that the carpet is almost bald. I've got an electronic mouse scarer from a company called Primrose (as in an earlier thread) and it's winking at me now. Have seen no mice for about a week but can't guarantee whether it was the clearing out and hoovering or the mouse scarer - anyway it's giving me confidence !

Would be nice if you let us know whether it works Morgan, I have heard that they don't, but I am always optimistic. Not that I have any of the little horrors now, but just in case they ever return...

What brand of mouse scarer did you get from Primrose?

There are so many of those electronic buzz on the market, i would greatly appreciate it if you can recommend the type or brand that you've got. Seems like its been working well for you, I would definitely like to give it a try. Thanks.

    Hia,
i got mine from ebay - i didnt want people knowing i had mice so this was my best option -
it has recently broke :( went to pull it out to use the socket and the light unit came off in my hands :( cant use it as it exposed the inside a bit.... but i had it for over 2 years n paid only £8.
was going to email the company but i cant find them, not for replacement (would be good though lol) but for safety...
i'm going to get another as thhey worked for me.
My cousin on the other hand, in her last house, about 5 years ago was over run by mice, so much so that she wouldnt go see the kids if they cried at night - she would tell them to go to her!!!!!
anyways, she bought the plug in at £40, and said they where rubbish as she got up one night and their was a mouse underneath it!
(when i got mine, i read everything that came with it, and it says it takes around 4 weeks to be fully effective, and even then, it might not affect all the rodents, but having 1 lonely one is better than 40 multiplying)
she was overrun as she let the kids eat in the room and they left food everywhere, she didnt do the traps as her or her bf couldnt empty them when caught ()... my dad told her to find out where they are coming in from and put crushed glass down the hole and fix the hole, she said she had done that, but had bloody foot prints for a while!

this is the traps i use, i have 4, similar to the old style ones, but means i can pick the trap up without touching then and release it over the bin.

This is a newer one of my plug-in ... this is very pricey at £27, but i want to be able to use the socket without interupting the sound.

  • I posted years ago about mice in my loft coming in from fields an up the cavitsy walls, a thorough perimiter check revealed a crack in the patio steps inviting them in, I cemented this over and bought the sonic plug in from Primrose. I put it on in the loft and I was up there yesterday for the first time in 2~3 years and not a trace of Mickey or Minnie having returned. Blue poision left was untouched as was the mars bars in a couple of old fashioned mouse traps. Not sure if related but since i got the plug I never have spiders or daddy long legs.

Good luck, they are horrid guests

Sorry I was just being lazy ! I have this one:

I can't say yet if it works but I have seen no mice and it fills me with confidence ! It is much smaller than this looks in the picture, doesn't work as a nightlight, but winks with a little red light.

    I'll post again when I've been mouse-clear for a fortnight !
  • :( I've been dreading this, a few weeks ago we could hear mice scrabbling around above our ceiling and below the old man upstairs floorboards. I called the council and they sent someone round to look at it. Problem in the upstairs neighbour is a really old man and clearly isn't able to look after his house. He is a total animal lover and I think he just regards them as sort of wild pets! Fast forward to last week, we had a leaking mains pipe and the plumbers had to take apart a whole section of paneling from our bathroom wall and cut a hole in the floor to feed through new piping, (NIGHTMARE!) 2 plumbers later they knocked the paneling somewhat back together. But frankly I could have done a better job myself, in half the time. I mentally put this down on my things to fix around the house list and left it at that. But about an hour ago I saw a grey mouse under the sofa.:eek::eek: Have called the council and am now waiting on a phone call from someone to come round but am just so petrified of them! :o I know its silly because they are so small but have taken refuge on the end of the bed and haven't left since I saw it. Scared I'll see it again! :p

Has anyone on here had mice? What did you do to get rid of them? I guess traps are the best but the thought of having to then get rid of those...! EEEK!
  • Do you know anyone with a cat or terrier dog that you could borrow for a few days? Might be enough to stop them coming into your house. I'm with you - hate the things even though they are so small.
