Baby moving from Formula 2 Cows Milk - How do you transport it?

Well at the moment our litllun is on Formula......we basically carry a flask of boiled and cooled water with us and her scoops of powder are in a pre measured container so its nice and simple.....

Now, as we are moving her onto cows milk (shes 1 next month!) we really dont know how you , say, go on a day trip. What do you do??? You cant take cold milk in a flask (dunno why , we were just told we couldnt), hot milk in a flask breeds bacteria.

There is a cooler bag available in Mother care for about £9 but it restricts you to 2 bottles.

Was just wondering what all the other Parents out there do when they will be away for, say, most of the day.

I hope this makes sense!

Thanks in advance!

Well. For my kids at one years old they went on to the follow on formula  so we continued on the same as usual. I figure being able to drink cows milk isnt supposed to be a replacement but something you can give them after a certain age. If you are going to change to cows milk entirely then I would suggest buying as you go if you're out all day. Perhaps you could speak to your health visitor about this..

    I've been Money Tipped!
My little boy just had his 1st birthday this week...flown by with you too I guess.

I used to breastfeed, so had to think this problem through too!

He only has 2 cows milk feeds a day. First thing in the morning and last thing at night. So, in effect, we only have to take a cup of milk if we're going out past his bedtime...which is rare for us.

When we do, if going to family or friends, we ring before and ask if they have enough milk in their fridge for him to have a cupful.

If we're out elsewhere, we take a cool bag (+ ice pack) with a bottle of milk in and pour into the cup when we need to.

I don't have a clue why you can't use the flask for cold milk though...never heard that one before!

Yes take a bigger cool bag with plenty of ice blocks packed around cows milk. Bag good for keeping food/sandwiches cool too.

I always take a cool bag and ice blocks when I go shopping. keeps the milk fresh and all the chilled/frozen stuff cool.

You can of course freeze the milk. It will then just gradually defrost during the day, keeping it fresh and enabling you to carry more as you will need less or no ice blocks, depending on the length of time you are out.

i didnt have any problems with changing over from forumla to cows milk when my boy reach one year old, that because he only had 2 bottles a day, first thing in the morning and one for bed.
maybe you should us this last month before your little 'un reaches one year old to wean him of his extra bottles. I'm sure if you speak to your HV, 2bottles a day should be fine, as they will be getting all their required nutrients from their balanced diet.
one less drink (fresh milk) to carry out if you succeed.

remember its only whole milk you give them, as they need all the fat.

your child at 1 should be on 1pt milk a day for the calcium and fat content, i would get him used, morning and night time drink only. (but try and wean him from a bottle and onto a cup)

    and remember

1 sm yoghurt or fromage frais = 1/3 pt
1 matchbox size slice of cheese = 1/3 pt
milk based puddings ie custard also count towards daily intake
    Give blood - its free
  • my little girl was only on a morning and bedtime bottle/cup by the time she was one too.
milk can supress the appetite so it would be better to wean your little one off of the extra bottles in the month before they reach one.
  • Hey Guys,

Your help is really appreciated I'll have a chat with my wife and see if we can get our daughter weaned off over the next month - the only difficulty i can imagine though is that we always give her milk when she has a nap - which is currently twice a day (+ morning + eve milk = 4 milks a day)

It'll be hard getting her to sleep without a bottle of milk - any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

    Neil

couldn't you put the milk in a cool bag with ice blocks? Is it somewhere remote you're thining of going to as most places I know have late-night opening/24 hour supermarkets where you could buy a bottle of milk.
  • weel to be honest its nowhere specific - its just that many days we may spend say, shopping or visiting relatives out of town or such......

I suppose moving over to cows milk just requires that bit more forward planning as opposed to just being able to get up and go as we do currently with a flask and some empty bottles......
