Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

  • Currently have 11k and haven't had a win yet - worth keeping them in bonds or moving to savings? How often are you guys winning at 11k and above - TIA

I was having a few £25's at first with 10k, but this year it seems my numbers are at the bottom of the bucket and they're not reaching down that far. It needs a good stir me thinks

11k can bring in around £29.58 a month (variable) using the high intrest current accounts:

Tesco Current account (£3000 * 3% /12) = £7.25 pcm per account (you can open two)

    Nationwide FlexDirect (£2500 * 5% /12) = £10.41 pcm (5% lasts year one)

    Bank of Scotland + Vantage (£2500 * 2% /12) = £4.16 pcm

    That accounts for £11k

More info as there are conditions needed to earn the intrest: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/savings-accounts-best-interest
  • For years I have had £100 and won nothing - no surprise.
Last two months I have had £45k in and won 2 x £25 last month and £25 this month which goes onto the balance! Problem now is i'm expecting it every month now.

What happens if you have the full amount of £50k and you win £25?

    (a) The done thing is to post on here and complain that you've had below average luck ;)

    (b) They pay the £25 to you rather than reinvesting it, as per the Ts & Cs at https://www.nsandi.com/files/published_files/asset/pdf/premium-bonds-brochure-print-friendly.pdf:
    43. The purchase limits in paragraphs 41 and 42 do not apply where the purchase is made under an automatic prize reinvestment mandate (see paragraph 39). Where such a purchase will take the holding up to the maximum limit (see paragraph 44), any balance of a prize will be paid to the Bond holder.

    44. A Bond holder may not hold more than £50,000 (fifty thousand £1 units). This limit is set by the Regulations and may be changed from time to time. If any purchase would result in this limit being exceeded, we will accept part of the purchase with any excess amount being returned to the applicant. However, this will not apply where the purchase is made by electronic transfer or under the Regular Purchase Scheme (see paragraphs 28 and 38) as these payments will automatically be returned in full.

haha my apologies. I know that come next month and the next 23 months i'll get zilch and look back on these two months with great fondness.

I appreciate the advice on the max of £50k.
