  • Hi Robert no I'm not hiding money but I have maxed other tax free savings through my Isa so while savings rates are low I'm trying my luck at premium bonds. Mind you given the Government involvement in premium bonds I doubt this would be where anyone would go if they wanted to hide money!

Who knows next month I may win the big one...?

  • Hi Everyone

Am new to this but just wished to share - for the 2nd time this year in today's Independent (well the "I" actually) winners of the £1mio premium bonds announced as "a man living in Derbyshire" and " a woman in Cambridgeshire" - just wondered how they get the information so quickly as the draws are done at the beginning of the month?

If the numbers are selected just after midnight, there is plenty of time to inform the media of the big wins, as there are only two £1000000 prizes. The rest of us have to wait.
  • I bought the paper at 6.35 so that's still pretty quick to get results and get em published....

The draw is done before the end of the month.
Main prizes are announced on the 1st of a month, but the draw is done a few days before that.

The organisation of premium bonds comes across quite amateurish to me. The date of the draw seems to be a matter of hearsay with conflicting opinions. I've not seen a definitive answer on the NS&I web site. As for minor prizes, I don't understand why this day and age winners can't be notified sooner. My prize checker app says next results in 5th October, allthough I'll be surprised if they're not there on or before the 3rd. The app should just push out notification when the results are available. There's also a school boy error on the major prizes web site where if you sort the dates they are organised in alphanumeric order with April 15 coming before February 04.

Edit-Results were available on the app on the 2nd but it won't show my September prizes in the history now.

  • 2 x £25 wins for me and hubby with a combined holding of £22k :). They are both from my £11k's worth. :)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

  • I don't understand why put say 40k into premium bonds no interest chances of winning is slim.
Is it a way to hide money !

It's just another way of investing your money. You don't get any interest, but you might win £1 million. Some of us like the idea of that little flutter. :)

And unlike the lottery, you can always get your stake back.

Seeing as PBs are run by the Government, I think there's little chance of 'hiding' money!!!!
