Insurance - Excess Change without notice?

I have my policy renewed each June. I need to make a claim but have just checked the excess, it has jumped by £150 to £200. Maybe it is my own fault for not noticing, but surely if this is a renewal, it should be the same as my previous policy. Nowhere on the letter from the company does it state there has been a change in my excess. Can they do this?

Renewals aren't bound to be the same as the previous policy.

There are often changes in cover, limits change (usually upwards), and excesses change.

But they should have informed you, and if they haven't you have a case for not agreeing to pay the new excess they want.

Take it up with your company - though be prepared for "egg on the face" - they usually do get these things done properly, and will point you to whereabouts they did inform you of the change.

But definitely worth contesting just in case they have slipped it in without telling you.

Thanks for the reply. They usually advise of any changes on the cover letter which comes with the quote, but this time they haven't. I have spoke to friends who work for insurance companies and they have advised me to contest it. Thanks again
