Driving into London using M1

Hello,
We are going to London soon, by car, using the M1 and wondered if anyone had any tips/info on where is the best place to park etc, please?
We are planning to use our Melin Annual Passes and visit the London Eye and Madame Tussauds.
We were thinking of driving to a Zone 5 or 6 tube station and then getting the Zonecards (there are 2 adults and 2 children)
(I have looked into catching the train, or coach, but they are all about £60+ return for the 4 of us, cannot find any cheaper rates, even with offers)
Thanks in advance!

Coming down the M1 then I would suggest Stanmore or Edgeware. I used to live at Stanmore and it has got a decent size carpark at the tube station, don't know the cost though as I used to take the bus to the tube station.
I think at Edgeware you may be able to use the shopping centre carpark, again don't know the cost if anyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hiya,
I have recently done the same trip. We parked at Stanmore which was supercheap... its was £2 maximum at the weekend for 24 hours parking (there was security on site as well) and then we got a replacement bus to Wembley as the tubes were having work done - the tube day passes could be used on any of the replacement buses - its didnt take very long and it was a bit of an adventure!
I would recommend doing it this way to anyone as it was so easy and super cheap compared to other methods of getting to London.
Hope this helps - I have just come off night shifts so if this doesnt make sense please accept my apologies lol!)

Unless you are planning to come to London on a sunday, when there is no congestion charge and plenty of places to park in the street (on single yellow lines) within walking distance of places like the London eye. This is also true for Saturdays after 1.30pm0

go to the bottom of the M1, park in the residential streets around Brent Cross tube station and take the tube from there.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Thank you for everyone's replies - appreciated (and Thanked!)
Dont suppose anyone knows of a Travelodge in London with parking, or if you can park overnight in a Tube Station car park (as mentioned above)?
I have emailed the car park operators to find out, as it doesnt give any info on their own website! - we were going to try to get one of the £19 sale rooms that start in the morning.
Thanks again!0 -
The thing about places like Stanmore and Edgware is that they are very easy to reach from M1. I have left my car at Stanmore but more frequently at Edgware as a relative lived nearby - on weekdays there is a commuter car park through the Sainsburys car park - last time I parked there it was £2 something all day - but is probably more now. I then go in on the tube. There are also some Travel Lodges and Premier Inns in the area which may offer parking. Last time I stayed in London itself for a show we got a very expensive matchbox and still needed a taxi to the theatre.2025 Decluttering Campaign 463/2025 🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟
