  • Thankyou so much lindab15 and everyone. I never knew that it was selling at practically 5 times its published price! (All 3 of them) You are right, I have received so many heartfelt comments I could show to a publisher, I feel more confidant now with all your backing.

This thread is good and useful there have been so many fantastic recipes. I think it would be nice to keep this thread open and tell each other about bargains we've spotted and where to get them and other tips like that.

    Love to everyone.

How about it being a book in the MSE series, like Thrifty Ways:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/thrifty-ways

Most importantly with money to charity from the proceeds:
As this book is based on collective wisdom, I'm donating all my proceeds to the MSE Charitable Fund.

    Hello Everyone,

I know a few of you have some questions about the giant jaffa cake. I used a small flan and a small packet of Jelly, but realised why don't you use the Girlguiding UK favourite also known as Quick Jel, get it in most supermarkets, and is so much easier than jelly. Hope that helps. Enjoy the jaffa :):j

Hi again, you will find that there are lots of cheap and cheerful recipies posted within the monthly grocery challenges. They have been going on on here for a lot longer. You have to read through all the various postings but there are lots of interesting posts about costs and recipes. Mrs McCawber is a prolific recipe producer on here. Currently on Aprils challenge now. It may be a source of interest for you.
Re the recipe book, I would think that you were probably thinking more of a commercial production. I wish you luck. I keep dabbling writing bits here and there, never get it all together, then I find someone else has done it so I never bother!. Ha thats me all over.
Good luck in your ventrure which ever way that you try.
Your lovely children must be all adults by now. Hard to think that, when they look out of the cover of the book at me most days.
My copy is too tatty to sell, and I wouldnt part with it for anything.

  • Thankyou Mooloo,

Yes, that Grocery Challenge is good isn't it.
I feel so encouraged, I want to make this book special. Thankyou for your kind words.

Yoour welcome. I think that you should contact This Morning programme on the Tv. Martin Lewis is already well known on there, and so it might be a way of getting some publicity. Had you tried the previous printers? Why would they not be interested?
Was just thinking of doing your meatloaf tomorrow. Wonder what the costings of that would be now, some 19 years on!
I recently did a shop purely on your original Typical week, then it was £27.98 when I did it, it was just about £50. Cant remember exactly but thats still good if you ask me.

Chelsea.housewife - Bernadine, I turned my house upside down last week looking for the book, thought I'd never find it:eek: Then my DD1(24) confessed that she had snaffled it!! I'm getting it back in a few days (thank godness).

I even have a magazine article that you did at about the same time the book was published - carefully preserved in a plastic wallet - 7 days of menus.

Believe me when I say you have been such an influence on my whole family over the years.

Good luck with the publishers and we hope to be able to buy the sequel soon:T

Jayjay, do you find it stange suddenly talking to the author of the book that dragged you through the last 20 years? I do. I feel like shes my friend and I have known her for years. Especially as there is a picture of her on the book.
Wonder what you look like now Bernadine.
