Thats why I want to go with Halifax. I'm currently with Barclays but they have terrible interest rates (except on e-saver) and its only a £300 interest free overdraft. I mean, you can negotiate higher but it'd be nice to be with someone who offers much bigger straight away!0 -
This thread is interesting - I have a truly terrible credit rating (youthful foolishness with store cards and stuff) and Halifaz gave me a student account no problem. I did get turned down for an overdraft extension though.0

I had an expresscash (i think thats what its still called) and used to get my wages, circa £400 a month paid in there for 2 years. My parents set me up a savings account with them years before that though.
Its good because they offer you visa electron even before your 16, and is accpeted most places delta is (doesnt work on trains - in my area anyway - as i once found out, thank you gullable, sorry, kind conductor).
I got £1000 when I opened but was rejected for the student credit card they tried to get me. I opened a proper cardcash account as soon as I turned 18 because I didnt have an acceptance letter yet, and still get my wages paid into that. I was told if I hadnt had that credit search and overdraft, I might have got a higher student one to start with - dont know if there is any truth in that. They wouldnt raise me from a £1000 until I was in my second year despite a number of appeals because I very came close to my limit a number of times, before I became sensible. In my second year now I get £1750 which is higher than most other banks 3rd year totals I believe. Still wont give me full whack though. Got rejected for the student credit card as well, so I'm with capital one.
My girlfriend in her first year got natwest full amount and credit card full amount straight away and has never had any credit or anything.0 -

which was the credit search for, sorry?0 -
It was the credit search for their current account that I had before I applied for my student account. They said I would probably have got a higher overdraft had I not had that credit search and £100 overdraft on it.johncmcloy wrote: »I opened a proper cardcash account as soon as I turned 18 because I didnt have an acceptance letter yet, and still get my wages paid into that. So they refused to give you a higher overdraft because you opened a current account with them.
What are banks coming to?0
