Some of the things my brother does at his school which I like...
Guess the teacher! Each teacher brings in a baby photo of themseleves. Placed on a board and the kids pay 20p to guess who is who. At the end the child with the most correct answers wins a prize.
Raffles are obviously always popular, this year the main prize was a signed shirt from the local football team (Plymouth Argyle). He managed to get this via me (I work there) but they are quite easy to get from most teams (but not the BIG teams as they are a bit tight on these things).
Putting different teachers in stocks and throwing sponges / pouring buckets of water / gunge over their head. This was priced accordingly.
20p 3 sponges
50p bucket of water
£1 bucket of gunge
£1 for photo of you doing any of the above
Promise auctions are always a great gift. These are done with the parents present as they tend to raise a bit more money (they go up to £50 - £100 sometimes) Each teacher has to 'promise' somthing for the winning child / children, something that cant be easily bought. Some of the promises last year included tickets to football match for 4 and tour of the ground, behind the scenes tour of local aquarium including going on top of the shark tank and watching them being fed, car driving day with child as passenger. The oppertunities are endless, each teacher just has to use their 'connections' outside the teaching world! This alone raised near £1000 last year.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
As a teacher I organised a popular and successful stall which was called something like "Name the baby."
I collected pictures of staff from when they were babies/young children and stuck them to a white board.
On the other side of the board I wrote the names of the staff that were taking part and also the names of some other popular members of staff (i.e the young attractive ones!) to get more pupils interested and to make the task more difficult.
People paid a nominal fee and received a sheet to record their guesses on. The person with the most correct guesses was the winner.
To be honest the pupils were more interested in seeing the pictures rather than the prize. Just make sure that they pay to see the pictures...if you don't enter you can't look!
Good luck!:A I can fly :A0 -
Here are some of the things that go down well at our school fetes:
Homemade Sweets and Cakes Stall
Booze Tombola (very very popular!!)
Teddy Tombola
we get the kids to name the teddies and we put little luggage labels on them with their names on - it seems to make them more desirable to the kids
Guess the name of the teddy
Hair braiding and eyebrow threading (one of the parents does this for us)
Hook a duck
Sticks in Sand
we got people to donate old vids and books as prizes
Guess the sweets in the Jar
Face painting
the year 6 children were very good at this
Puppet Show
Bran barrelTwins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -

We used to have bike decorating competition, and fancy dress, and lots more... don't remember having to pay an entry fee but the prize would be a rosette for 1st/2nd/3rd so doesn't cost much, and gives entertainment in an "arena". Come to think of it we used to practice country dancing and perform this in the arena too.0

Treasure island ; same as sticks in the sand but with a couple of "shapely" mums dressed up in bikinis & grass skirts underneath a paper palm tree, with glasses of punch as prizes, always seemed popular with the dads!
Got a parent who's good with a digital camera? Set up a studio in a class room/quiet area for kids to have photos taken, collect in one hour with someone printing off photos on a decent photo printer.
Went to one fate where they hired a local artist who drew portraits in crayon, went down a storm. Admitedly this was a long time ago, my Mum still has the portrait of me aged 5 in her living room, I am now 33!
HTH;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
