I bid and won some 'Genuine Ugg Boots'. I paid by paypal immediatly. When I received the boots I was suspicious that they were 'genuine' especially as they didnt fit like the originals I already have, amongst other tell tale signs. I went to contact the seller via ebay to find that they were 'No longer a Registered User', although there was no evidence of bad feedback. I opened a Paypal dispute and after a few messages to ing and fro ing, they have agreed they will refund me but only when they receive the boots back. Call me whatever but I am not very keen on sending the boots bearing in mind they are no long a registered user, (surely there is a reason for this)
Please any suggestions on what others may do in this case..............and be certain I am giving up on ebay now as it has become a million miles away from the place it was intended being and there are far too many crooks on it for my liking.
Thanks in anticipation of any ideas....

Shouldn't have to do that if they are fakes.
Better of escelating it to a claim and taking them to a shop who can write you a note and confirm that they are indeed fakes.
Paypal don't like people selling fakes.0 -
I'm probably way off here... but I have a vague understanding that 'Ugg Australia' is a trademark, but 'Ugg' is not.My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Ugg is the name of the type of boot
Ugg Australia is the brand name/manufacturer of a type of Ugg boot
You can either return for a refund, or you would need to prove that they are fake if they were listed as Ugg Australia0 -
This UGG lark seems to be a minefield..I know someone did a search recently and posted on one of the boards about UGG being a generic term..so like the others have said the OP needs to check what the auction listing actually stated.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. you are right about this being a minefield. i have read previously that the word ugg was a generic term but just found this:
http://www.celticsheepskin.co.uk/pages/ugg.asp
Ugg Boot History
"Ugg boot" was a term used in Australia for many years to describe the style of Sheepskin Boots worn by surfers to keep their feet warm after spending hours in the sea. These surfers, many of them travellers, brought the Ugg boot to Newquay in Cornwall in about 1973. Ever since, ugg boots later renamed to Celt Boots have been made in Newquay.
In Aug 1990 the business was bought by Nick Whitworth, who in 1991 registered the term UGG as a registered UK trademark in the international class 25 division of footwear - No 1,326,567.
For the next 6 years trading continued under the name of The Original Ugg Co and with ever increasing sales the popularity of Ugg spread around the UK, with a decision being made to concentrate on selling via mail order and of course via the web.
In 1994 Brian Smith from the USA company of Ugg Holdings contacted Nick and came over to Newquay to discuss the purchase of the rights to use the term Ugg. Negotiations slowed whilst Ugg Holdings were taken over by Deckers, but finally in 1996 an agreement was reached whereby Deckers licensed the use of Ugg with an option to purchase at a later date.
In the mean time Nick in Newquay changed the company name from The Original Ugg Co to The Celtic Sheepskin Co and changed the wording on the boot label from Ugg to Celt. Almost all of Celtic Sheepskin's huge range of Celt boots are made in Newquay from 100% real sheepskin.
The term ugg is now registered to the Deckers corporation.

I would say you would be pretty safe sending them back to get your refund if Paypal are involved but I would send them recorded delivery. Paypal have already been on Watchdog and have promised better service. If they don't do as promised...I'm sure watchdog would take up your case.Live for today and don't worry about tomorrow!!:EasterBun0

Thanks for all the snippets. It is true, I now realise that the Ugg Boot marketplace is an absolute minefield. All down to experience.
I suppose I am concerned that they are no longer a registered user on ebay, so I could send the boots back by special delivery and could prove they had been received but how would I enforce my refund if they then refused?
If they were still registered I dont think I would have become overly suspicious,0
