Log into google mail and at the top right click on settings, then forwarding and pop, and all the settings are in plain view in English and easy to understand.

    Dont forget to enable pop.

Thanks honey will try that now ;) will let you know how i get on lol Sarah x

You have to configure AVG aswell, also so here come all the pretty settings.

    Enable Pop
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273

    Set up Outlook Express
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=76147

    Configure AVG with Gmail/Googlemail

Settings in a nutshell with no explanations....

In your Outlook Express use these server settings for your Gmail account..

    Servers tab
    POP3 server name 127.0.0.1
    SMTP server name 127.0.0.1
You MUST enable authentication (logging into) your Outgoing server

    Advanced tab
    POP3 server port 995
    SMTP server port 465
DO NOT check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" on the advanced tab for either POP3 or SMTP.

    AVG settings..

    POP3 Server

    Type of login... Fixed Host
    Host pop.gmail.com
Local port used in email client 995.
    Use APOP is disabled
Connection is Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
    Activate this server.... is enabled.

Save any changes and then Double click on the SMTP server and it should have..

    SMTP Server

    Type of login... Fixed Host
    Host smtp.gmail.com
Local port used in email client 465
    Queue processing is Automatic
Connection is Secure to regular port (STARTTLS)
    Adminstrative server should be 995.
    Activate this server.... is enabled.

Wow thanks for a detailed reply ;) am i being really stupid ?? cant see how to get into avg to put settings in lol gawd i really need a brain transplant at times lol :P

Double click the AVG Icon in the system tray near the clock then double click on e-mail scanner and then properties and then servers.

    FYI

You can edit any existing servers, you dont have to create new ones, you could if wanted to delete any existing ones then create new ones but editing them is just fine.

lol you have the patience of a saint today!! ;) :P delving into avg now will report back to u xx

  • just got this message lol omg

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.googlemail.com', Server: 'pop.googlemail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

When you entered your details in the setup of google in Windows mail did you put in the password and username correctly as the server is timing out due to a username/password error.

Tools, Accounts, Properties, Servers Tab, and only put in the email adress before the @ symbol and re-insert your password again Ok all the way out.

Have double checked and yes definately have email addy and password entered correctly omg am i frustrated lol cant imagine how your feeling  :rotfl:

Well Im feeling great as I have just finished putting up a fence panel and back gate and fence poles, im chuffing tired but im on a promise 2nite, lol.

Is your firewall stopping a connection.

    In vista,

    http://www.maximumpcguides.com/add-an-exception-in-the-windows-vista-firewall/

Now all you have to do is let the AVG email scanner access.

The ones you want to tick all begin with avg (there should only be 4)

Well the promise sounds loads better than an easter egg so good luck to you :rotfl: :rotfl: will check out the link you have given me above and HOPEFULLY i will be sorted but will of course report back lol failing this working i recon you are gonna have to get onto my pc via msn and sort it for me lol At this rate i need some vino im getting stressed with it lol DAMN PC's lol
