The price seems resonable to me.

Would have been far better to have used Google and learnt to do it yourself as I bet you will have to do another repair one day.

I used to work in the NHS not in IT at all, but I knew more than the IT guys did at times.

There office was 2 mins from me but guess who always got asked for advice?

The trouble with any goverment IT system is the people who employ their services know !!!!!! all about IT and so get taken for a ride, and they never will know anything.

If they did they would not be working for the goverment paying peanuts, and then they think they can tell us our data will be safe in their hands?

    What a joke.

Conor, what you say is true, but your attitude is disgusting. People come here for help, not to be told they are stupid.

Back on topic, if the photos are still there you need another drive to try and restore them to.

DO NOT TRY TO RESTORE TO THE SAME DRIVE.

Aaaah that explains it, the good old NHS is it?
    What role do you do

I don't work for the NHS, but my firm does supply them with a PAS system in many hospitals in London and the South east. Yup, i do work in London. I'm actually off to Ireland tomorrow to work on a RIS/PACS interface.. I'm an interface analyst - i develop code to allow different manufacturers software talk to ours. We're quite a techy bunch and have to be 'good at everything'

A days work from me would set back a hospital £776 - so I don't consider that cheap. It'll be more when I eventually become an 'architect',

I've worked alongside with NHS IT consultants from other firms and was rather unimpressed by them. A firm tried to poach me once, but i quite like permanent employment and the training that comes with it

If you're looking to jump ship from NHS IT and are in london.. let me know, i know where to fix you up with work
Back on track.. go to maplins, buy something like this : http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=223785&source=1&DOY=24m3

Then, try running a data recovery program like this: http://www.download.com/PC-Inspector-File-Recovery/3000-2248_4-10118663.html?tag=lst-1

I've used that to recover trashed partitions in the past - worked very effectively on mangled drives.

Copy the recovered files onto your portable HD.. then, wipe clean and reinstall everything... finally, keep backups on that HD for the future

The company i used to work for pimped me out at £75 for the first 30 mins and then £1.17 a min after that, all plus vat. I kid you not.

Not repairing PC's though, Printers & stuff.
