Read a while ago about a website where you enter the reg plate of a car and it shows the tax and mot the car has..

Not sure if it was on here or elsewhere.. Anyway anyone know the site?
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

You can check the tax here:
    http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

and you can check the MOT here:
    http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/

You need more than just the reg to check the MOT though, you also need the last MOT test number or the reference number from the V5C.

Quick note about the tax too, it's not always quite accurate. My tax ends this month and shows as about to expire even though I've already bought my new tax disc.

Thanks, thats great for the TAX and a few details about the car.

Unfortunately it's a car I'm looking to buy so don't have the V5 details to be able to do the MOT check.

Don't forget to do a check to make sure it hasn't previously been written off or have outstanding credit on it. It's only £5 but worth it it you're not buying from a garage.

    info here:

  • The mot 'check' is a very good thing as by now their system should have circa 3 years worth of mots, so by asking the buyer for the latest mot number you can see for sure if anything major expense is likely to come up in the future. Any sensible private or trade seller will give the reg no and mot number.

Of course it does not have everything eg. engine condition, clutch condition, interior condition, but it does nonetheless help in deciding whether to buy the car

infact it only costs £2, as topcashback give £3 for each search, what a bargain!
