Capital One advance warning of last payment date (post, bank & internet).

Hello

Just to let all those people using Capital One Credit Cards, that the clear 'to be paid by' information, on their statement, has now been replaced with a tiny little written box outlining the same information & dates.

Previously, it was very easy to see when you needed to make a payment by, at either of the above options. However, the small print has just got a whole lot smaller...be warned...or pay your monthly account minimum by direct debit.

Regards

I have been a cap 1 customer since july 2007 and my "pay by" date has never changed, not a problem for me mate.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

pay your monthly account minimum by direct debit.

Warning: even that might not be trouble-free.

Last month's statement said "Your payment of £x will automatically be taken from your nominated bank account on or within three working days of dd/mm/yyyy". I rang Customer Services to ask "does this mean 3 working days before, after, or either side?". I was told, in more than one separate phone call, that it meant "after".

More fool me to believe them. Of course CapitalOne tried to take the DD three days before, when funds were not in place to cover it.

Customer Services by phone initially said they would refund the charges and not apply interest but wouldn't refund my bank charge - needless to say they did nothing of what they said they would. So, I fired off another letter of complaint (I'd already had to complain about cashback mishandling).

I've had many cards over many years and this is the worst service I've had. I'll stop using the card, and keep it on only to get the cashback paid in January.

All of my direct debits take money off my account 3 days before the due date.

Yes, it happened to me as well this month.

My statement said "Your payment of £x will automatically be taken from your nominated bank account on or within three working days of 05/04/2008."

Previously, it would debit on 08/04/2008. But this month it debited on 02/04/2008.

Luckily I had enough fund to cover it.

Well, credit where credit is due (ha ha).

CapitalOne have responded to my complaint, apologised, and refunded the late payment fees and the purchase interest ... and my bank charge for going overdrawn!

So it looks like they respond well to written complaints. Which is nice.

Pity that (a) everything their Customer Services say is compelte rubbish and (b) too much of their documentation is ambiguous or contradictory.
  • Same thing with me, I use my card every month, to get the cashback and generally pay half of the balance with my debit card on the internet site, then let my DD go, which is generally only for the mimimum payment of £5 but they DD is supposed to go on the 13th of the month, it invariably goes on the 10th.

I would have thought that common sense would have prevailed in this case, and because you weren't sure about the payment date, then the funds should have been in place three days previouly.

My last statement stated that the full amount would be taken on or within 3 days of the 8th of the month. Last month's payment was taken on the 13th!

The collection dates differ every month.
