How can i become rich

I always remember one of the cleverest ways was a perfectly legal scam described in one of Jeffery Archers short stories.
A man sets up a company in hong kong and has a magazine printed containing adverts for hundreds of companies which he then charges the compaines for the space in his magazine. Most of them tell him where to go but some pay up.
he made millions.
Read the whole story in Archers book, its an intersting read. I cant remember which book its in off the top of my head... [maybe 12 red herrings?]
JCome to my garden in South Bucks and i'll find you a wasp...0 -
OK this won't really work, well it will if it is legally binding and you can find a willing participant................here goes
Offer your services to somebody e.g little errands, shops or gardening and the like
Tell them that you will do 30 jobs for them, the first job costing just 1 pence and each subsequent job will be double the last amount (so second job will cost them just 2 pence. See where I'm going here?
Anyway by the time you have completed your 30 errands and been paid for them as described in your legally binded contract.....you will be a multi millionaire!!
Just see here.............

If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302 & 1241 of the Postal Lottery laws.Anti-Lottery Laws Prohibit Use of Mail to Promote Lotteries
Title 18, United States Code
Section 1302. Mailing lottery tickets or related matter
Whoever knowingly deposits in the mail, or sends or delivers by mail:Any letter, package, postal card, or circular concerning any lottery, gift enterprise, or similar scheme offering prizes dependent in whole or in part upon lot or chance;-- shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both; and for any subsequent offense shall be imprisoned not more than five years.
Any lottery ticket or part thereof, or paper, certificate, or instrument purporting to be or to represent a ticket, chance, share, or interest in or dependent upon the event of a lottery, gift enterprise, or similar scheme offering prizes dependent in whole or in part upon lot or chance;
Any check, draft, bill, money, postal note, or money order, for the purchase of any ticket or part thereof, or of any share or chance in any such lottery, gift enterprise, or scheme;
Any newspaper, circular, pamphlet, or publication of any kind containing any advertisement of any lottery, gift enterprise, or scheme of any kind offering prizes dependent in whole or in part upon lot or chance, or containing any list of the prizes drawn or awarded by means of any such lottery, gift enterprise, or scheme, whether said list contains any part or all of such prizes;
Any article described in section 1953 of this title
Apart from the fact that if you ran this "scheme" by post in the USA you could go to prison, how does this law settle peoples' doubts?0 -
Hi
I think this was a serious question even though a lot of the replies have been tongue-in-cheek.
The OP doesn't say how old he/she is. Here's what I'd do if I was half a century younger than I am now.
I'd start saving! Seriously saving, a proportion of whatever income I had coming in. I'd also seriously live below my means. I'd never buy anything just because it was 'cool', because my mates had it/did it - I'd always apply Martin's principles of 'Do I want it? do I need it? can I get it cheaper anywhere else?'
Very importantly also, I'd never pay one pennypiece in bank interest, overdraft charges, credit card interest, bounced payment charges, anything at all like that. I'd save in a cash ISA first and foremost and then in an equity ISA, build up equity holdings over the long-term. I'd also pay the maximum yearly allowance into a pension fund, just put it away and forget about it.
Well, that's a beginning, no doubt others can suggest other things. Some would buy a house and avoid paying out money as rent - I think that's very arguable in today's climate. There may be good deals to be had out there. I wouldn't waste money on flash cars just because of 'status' - if I need a car I'd look for the cheapest, most economical to run, something like the 'M' reg Fiesta that we have now!!
A few ideas, but it does depend on how many years you have to do it.

Thats a good start - Likely your pay will increase by 50% over the next 10 years or so, by which time you will be saving 66% of your wage since you will also be recieiving approx £5k per year in interest
I'm 38 and saving 100% since my interest / capital growth exceeds expenditure,0 -

lush_walrus wrote:Oh completely agree on the gambling, you never see a poor bookie...I think that is the answer to whether to gamble or not!
Actually gambling isn't a bad way of making money, provided you do it with someone else's. Visit the gambling board and have a look at the start of the "Easy free money through matched betting" thread where all is explained. Just about anyone can make several hundred points in a few weeks without needing any significant capital. See also Gritt's diary on the same board.
I think the JP Getty formula was the classic way to become wealthy: "get up early, work hard, strike oil".
There's a serious point here. Yes, to become very wealthy you do have to take risks. But whether or not the risks pay off is largely a matter of luck, and for every Richard Branson there are hundreds of wanabee entrepreneurs attempting to speculate to accumulate and losing their cash. Of course it helps if you have imagination, drive, you work hard and believe in yourself.0 -

Prenuptials aren't enforcible in the UK - although the court will sometimes take them into consideration. If the marriage is a long one or there are children, they're probably not worth the paper they're written on. Sorry to be such a lawyer.... I haven't had a sense of humour amputation, I just can't help myself:p0
