I managed to get penny flights with Ryanair to Dublin so on the spur of the moment I booked for me and my thirteen year old son to have a day there. He's now asking about what we'll be doing and apart from maybe a bus tour I can't find much else. Possibly a bus tour and a stroll about is all that'd be manageable?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

dead easy. hop on hop off day ticket.
pick up the bus on O'Connell Street neat the Post Office. Stay on all the way round (about an hour) and be entertained by the witty commentary of the driver. As you go around you will see places you will fancy hopping off at on the next circuit. just take your pick.
i can also recommend a trip around the castle. very interesting.
have a fab timeBlonde jokes are one-liners so men can remember them...;)0 -
is 6 hours including travel times to and from the airport and check-in for return etc (i.e. time of arrival to time of departure)? If so, that wont leave you much time to do sightseeing as such, just a stroll around the town! If i remember correctly, it takes about 45 mins each way by airport bus to reach city centre, more if you're going to use the local bus. otherwise, if you have full6 hours in city centre, you'll have enough time to get on tourist bus!0

I'm with Debs66. We went around the city and only found the bus tour late on and it's well worth it and not expensive.
It was a few years before the went over to the euro, but it was £5 (probably a only a £10 or so now) each for the day and you jump on and off as many times as you want and plenty of them doing the circuit.0 -
The bus tour is well worth the money - we used the red one not the cream/green one. Cant remember what the difference was but it was better from what I can remember.
It is hop on/off and they are every 10 minutes or so.
Me and the OH went to Dublin for our anniversary and ended up at the zoo which was great. Maybe because I am a big kid though!0 -
            6 hours?
Hmmm by my calculations thats just enough time for 18 pints of the black stuff!0 -
go to the zoo about £10 to get in and one of the best i have been too0

The bus will stop outside the zoo. The zoo trip will be a couple of hours so gives you time to go round the bus trip once and have lunch/dinner before heading home.0

Thanks for all of the replies!
The 6 hours is for the time that we have to sightsee so a bus ride, zoo and 18 pints sounds great, only 9 pints for my son though as he's only thirteen!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
The guinness factory is always worth a look too.
One place i would recommend to eat is the Bad !!! Cafe just off Temple Bar - its fun and funky and ideal for kids.0 -
Remember to buy a Family one day rambler ticket for €10, this allows unlimited travel on Dublin bus for the day for both of you and it includes the airport bus which is faster than the regular bus to the airport, you can buy it here http://www.dublinbus.ie/fares_and_tickets/daily.asp and have it delivered at no extra cost or you can buy it at the arrivals area of the airport but not on the bus. For your city tour you have a choice of http://www.dublinbus.ie/sightseeing/bookTour.aspx?tourid=8 or http://www.city-discovery.com/dublin/tour.php?id=1790 both of them give good details as to the areas covered. Enjoy.0
